How far has American standing in the world fallen during the Bush years?(*)
This article about an Italian restaurant offering discounts to “poor Americans” suffering from economic woes is more symbolic than anything, but it made me think of how far we’ve come since 2000.
These days, lots of Americans need help.(*)
60 Minutes recently explained what happened when a charity group that gives free health care to people in remote areas of Latin America set up shop in Knoxville, TN: they had to turn people away as more showed up for free care than could be helped.
Food stamp use is nearing a record–some 28 million Americans are expected to receive food stamps in the next year.
The Bush economy is all about
stagnant wages,
poor employment growth, rising debt–both(*)privateand
public.(*) Bush is leaving a mess for the next president–but hey,
that’s his m.o.(*)
It’s hard to find anything about the Bush presidency that makes one proud to be an American.
