Default Obama Attacks McCain on Social Security Privatization

dday is exactly right: if John McCain had his way in 2005 when Bush tried to privatize Social Security, this week's Wall Street collapse would be taking Social Security down with it.

Obama is running this ad in Michigan, but it really should be running everywhere:

Just another fact that proves just how dangerous electing McCain would be.

Short term market trends do not effect long term investments.

The fact remains that someone who invested the same amount of money in disability insurance, term life insurance, and a retirement plan (the three benefits SSI provides) they would have up to ten times the retirement income that Social Security provides. In dollars and cents this means that for every $1000/mo of Social Security retirement income the individual would have up to $10,000/ mo with private investments.

It also doesn't take into consideration that Social Security is going to place an ever increasing tax burden upon the People in the future and that the government is going to have to violated the contracts that it has with the People to provide the benefits it promised them in the past.
