but as usual, for me this means leave it up to smaller localities. I don't think legalizing prostitution would harm some of the urban areas that illegal prostitution already exists in. But I don't think most people want prostitution around. At least if it were legalized, it would be regulated to enforce use of condoms and other contraceptives.

Actually, that should be up to the prostitute and her/his customer.

The government could make a lot of money by owning brothels.

In Denmark they have a system where prostitutes are legal as long as prostitution is not their chief source of income.

In New Zealand, prostitues are legal so long as they are all federally registered and get regular tests.

Both could be combined, and instead of pimps, the government would tax them. Good revenue!

What if the client is a doctor or a dentist? Then there is a great chance to have AIDS spread all over the (*)(*)(*)(*) place just because of two stupid people. Sexual relations are private problems. Kids born to prostitutes and fast traveling social diseases are a public problem. If taxi drivers need to be legal drivers, prostitutes should be responsible...can't think of a polite word. Bad drivers kill people. So do bad... well, you get it.

And why would the government care if prostitution is their chief source of income, provided they obey the law and pay their taxes?
