Default How Much Should the Government Do?

The question in this poll is simple, but answering it may require some thought. What percent of a nation's significant problems, whether military, economic, social or moral, does its government have a responsibility to solve? Three weeks ago I would have chosen "between 70 and 80 percent", but having become more practical I have to choose "between 30 and 40 percent". There can also be no denying that opinions about government responsibility vary within both the American Left and the American Right.

I think this is a mistake. The govenrment is not meant to be on absolute numbers and fractions and percentages. Its a silly poll at best.

Printer's right. It's not a matter of percentages or fractions. It's a matter of what parts of what parts of what parts... It requires specifics. A better poll would be in what area does government most belong or most need to stay out of. Even then, no poll can really capture the complexity of the issue.
Also there is a difference between "should" and "could or couldn't"
I'd say government SHOULD play practically no roll in our lives. But that ideological statement would be severely ignorant of reality.

Default Oversimplification

You're right, JavaBlack, I do tend to oversimplify- and this poll is an example of that. The Nolan Chart measures the same thing- but by asking questions about specific issues.
