Also, since you are against the war in Iraq, you might try these sites: Americans Against World Empire, run by a consortium of Conservatives and Libertarians. Antiwar.com, which is a site that was created to protest Bill Clinton's invasion of Kosovo, and continues today to provide a message from true Conservatives who are opposed to "war on false pretenses". You will also find articles from a few Liberals at this site: You can ignore those. LOL. |

Well, I appreciate your political zeal, but I somehow doubt that most members of the LP would agree with me on several of those issues. More importantly, from what I have seen on the Internet (and I have taken many libertarian political tests) most libertarians, referring to the ideology as well as the party, are far less incremental in their approach than I am. Ultimately, after I paid down the debt, I would cut taxes, for example, but I would pay off the debt first. I also support slow withdrawal from Iraq, which wouldn't satisfy a pure isolationist. I don't want to debate the specific issues, but I think that the LP is too far from the political center for me. Thanks anyway.

Forget the parties. Their overrated. They're all so caught up in their little boxes, sticking with like-minded "yes"-men until they're convinced that they're actually right. One of the beauties of this site is that it is not heavily controlled by any party- a rarity on the net. Parties are traps.
Now I'll tell you I've voted predominantly Democrat in every election so far and have no regrets (OK- so I kinda wish I would have voted Nader in 2000). But I'm not above voting for a worthy Pub, especially with the lineup the Crats have lately. I have mixed feelings about the third parties. I like that they're different but I don't like the way they get off in their little fringe groups and babble in each other's lingo till it becomes truth. Politics is in many ways religion's nastier and dumber cousin. Always look at the issues one at a time. Never get yourself emotionally tied to a party- because that's what most of it really is- don't let them tell you otherwise. You have your own beliefs and you have shown the wisdom to change your mind occasionally- even though you may switch back and forth- doesn't matter: It means you're thinking. Never stop thinking. Joining a party is just a way to make the thinking easier. Don't do it. Aid a party if you want. Vote. Run for office. Do work for a campaign. Whatever. Just don't get sucked in. Vote with your heart. Vote with your mind. Hell, vote completely by random if you're convinced God is guiding your pencil- but never vote because a party tells you to. But don't stay away from all parties. Keg parties, toga parties, cocktail parties, and even tupperware parties can be nice. They can get you away from politics for a while. |
