What's wrong with these people..

The project has experienced some opposition from environmental bodies such as Greenpeace, who regard the ITER project as "madness" [6], claiming that "Nuclear fusion has all the problems of nuclear (fission) power, including producing nuclear waste and the risks of a nuclear accident". Greenpeace also claim that "likely, it will lead to a dead end, as the technical barriers to be overcome are enormous". Greenpeace claim that the US$12 billion spent on ITER could be better used to build 10,000 megawatt offshore windfarms.

I do understand the worries of the envronmentally conscious people.. Pollution harms nature and our living environment.. The environment itself is a valuable thing and something preciate..
Still, it makes very little sense to undermine the future research for _clean_ energy.. The fusion energy promises us not only clean source of energy, but also an enduring and enormous energy source.. This is something, that could solve one main contradiction between the economical and environmental interests..
IMO, the criticism against the fusion research appears short-sighted and foolish.. It is something, that undermines the green movement's own interests in the long run..
