Default Labels on Social Issues

I have been called both a social conservative and a social liberal on this site. Now, I am not offended by either label, but in pondering them today I recognized that both labels are inaccurate. While I've abandoned my earlier impracticable ideas, I still support the selective enforcement of strict censorship laws to discourage certain material. Now, the first thought that probably comes into your mind is that I am a social conservative. That is not actually correct. I am a social egalitarian. I don't oppose certain types of material so strongly because they are dissipating (though they are), because they cause social instability (though they do) or even because they are forbidden indirectly in parts of the Bible (though, again, they are). I oppose them because they are messages of extreme inequality. It would be perfectly possible for an extreme right-winger to support censorship but oppose equal rights for women and minorities. As an egalitarian, I not only support anti-discrimination laws, I also support affirmative action for both women and minorities. Such an idea is far from conservative, but it ties in directly with my support of censorship, albeit selective censorship, of material that promotes inequality.
That tendency of mine has led some libertarian conservatives on the site to consider me a social liberal. But what is a social liberal? Typically, a strong social liberal opposes nearly all censorship. The ACLU is perhaps the most uncompromisingly socially liberal organization of any prominence in this country. I absolutely oppose their interpretation of free speech. Therefore, like a social conservative, I oppose any strong level of social permissiveness, yet I oppose such permissiveness on egalitarian grounds. Hence, though this is not a point of pride, I defy traditional political labels on social issues. This is just a bit of rambling on my part, by the way, and it is too personal to be of importance to anyone but me, I daresay. That said, I'll discuss it in the off chance that it interests you. Thank you very much.
