Default Welfare Discussion

Before I make a fool of myself yet again with another "permanent" fiscal plan that I scrap within days because of its flaws, I'd like to get some information. I have many other questions, but I'll start off with two basic ones that have been running through my mind. First, what is the average cost for one year of vocational training (in the U.S.)? Second, am I correct in stating that, at the present time, social security taxes take in more money annually than is paid out in social security?

Default Don't know on the first.

Yes on the second. Although the government nabs the surplus to spend it.

Default Thank You Very Much, stekim

Thank you very much, stekim. That will help me in deciding what to do (in theory) with Social Security. Who on the site might know the answer to the first question? I've tried various combinations of words in Google searches but I can't find any information on the subject.

Default It's likely not out there.

There are public and private vocational schools that all vary in what they charge. I don't think an average number would help much to be honest.

Default ?

Perhaps what I should have asked is what vocational training for semi-skilled labor should cost in theory? What is your estimate?

Default All I can add is that

community colleges here in Georgia do mostly vocational training and they cost around $750 a semester, including books, give or take. But that has little bearing on what Oregon or Wyoming charge.

Default ?

Would Georgia be above, or as I suspect, below the national average in such costs?

Default Let me say I have no idea,

but we have a lottery here that pays tuition for all high school graduates with a B average in High School, so a lot of our higher education budget is not tax payer funded. So I'm guessing we're lower than average. But if I'm wrong I won't be shocked.

That's a (*)(*)(*)(*) good idea! How's it working?

Well, if you're a middle class white kid, it's working great! It's like an extra tax on the poor and uneducated to help make school cheaper for kids with good grades.

Democrats know the biggest barrier to higher education isn't money, but it sure helps get votes!
