The year is 1905. One hundred years ago. Here are some of the U.S. statistics for the Year 1905:

The average life expectancy in the U.S. was 47 years.

Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.

A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars.

There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California.

With a mere 1.4 million people, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!

The average wage in the U.S. was 22 cents per hour.

The average U.S. worker made between $200 and $ 400 per year.

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.

More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S. took place at home. Ninety percent of all U.S. doctors had no college education.

Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard."

Sugar cost four cents a pound.

Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.

Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.

Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.

Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.

Five leading causes of death in the U.S. were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke
The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet. The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30!!!
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet.
There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 U.S. adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacist said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health."(Shocking!)
Eighteen percent of households in the U.S. had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.
There were about 230 reported murders in the entire U.S.
Now I forwarded this from someone else without typing it myself, and sent it to you in a matter of seconds!

Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years. It staggers the mind.

Wait, what happened to the Golden Age? Don't conservatives think there was a Golden Age just a few decades back?

Your must be thinking of the Pat Buchanan crowd but even they only go back to the 1950s. I am a huge supporter of the ideals of the founding fathers, but I wouldn't want to live in 1776.

We support ideals that have passed the test of time, we support ideals that have survived and been tested time and again and always get the best out comes.Conservatives want to CONSERVE the best ideals of western culture (more specifically American culture). If one does not change you can't conserve. We always drive for furthering our cause and giving the next generations a better world then we inherited. We understand that are generation doesn't last forever and we are all mortals, we also understand though that every generation are simply "dwarfs on the shoulders of giants" and that without the past we have nothing we are just cavemen. We stick to and revisit ideals of the past as well as debate the plausibility of are own generations metaphysical abstractions. We believe in the ideals of the revolution and although we understand that the founders had their own personal hang up we marvel at this republic that they created and later generations improved upon that we inherited and we argue for the support and the spreading of the ideals of the American Revolution even further within our society. We believe that the Constitution was the greatest document of how to run a government ever created by one single generation and that it is still the greatest single piece of political work ever to be written. We believe in the superiority in the western culture, we believe that America is the epitome and the perfect example of the greatness of the west means. We believe in conserving the ideals of the wisdom of the West that the west created and reformed from other cultures to make its own. We believe in the superiority of are Jewish Christan roots. We believe in small government that more power should be dictated to the states where power is closest to the people so they can more easily decided the faith of the society they desire. We believe in capitalism and free trade, and we love that people from all over the world want to come to America to raise their kids in a land "Where poor people are fat." We believe in a color-less society and don't care what race or ethnic background you come from. We adore are cultural heritage and believe are nation to be the greatest on Earth. I could go on and on but I'll leave you with the basics.

Do we think their was a golden age? Depending on topics of course, there was a Golden Age for horse and buggies doesn't mean we want to go back to it though. If we are going to get into a debate about horse and buggies we would bring up information from that Golden Age. What many liberals, leftist, rightist, communist, Marxist, fascist, anarchist and others don't understand about conservatism is that we don't want to go back to any time period we want to go forward but we honor our past we cherish it, because without it and the ideals that brought us foreword today we are nothing. We understand and have learned that one generation can destroy society and drag it back to a more barbaric time period when it reallies to heavily upon metaphysically abstractions (The Rise of the Jacobin's brought into power Napoleon.)Which is why we always look back well we keep moving forward. Patrick Henry said it best

I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided; and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging the future but by the past. -Patrick Henry

So clearly you must be nearly as annoyed with the current administration as Democrats are.

You know, if you ditched the Rush avatar, you could come across as quite reasonable.

After I had changed my Sig to a quote from Henry I decided to change my avatar to him since I have had Rush for about two months now. I put Rush up though because libs just get so mad and annoyed by the sight of him it makes it easier to debate them lol .

I understand. But poking people in the eye really isn't a good way to persuade them of anything. Bystanders, too, will often assume you're just a drone.

Good choice on Henry, though.
