my concern is with the sanctioning of the act, not with who it's done to. until recently the US did not commit mock execution as a matter of policy. now it does. the fact that these reprehensible policies appear to be serving as a model of behavior for child abusers only shows how when a country engages in torture, it eventually pollutes that country's own people.

the question i'm wondering about is, even if this little 24 fantasy were true... say you were in this room with KSM, and say the waterboarding hadn't worked. what would you have done next? and then, if that hadn't worked, where would you have stopped?

once you wrap torture in the 24-style rationalization, it slippery-slopes into making every torture known to man acceptable. unless there is a point where you would say, no, THIS i will not do and i will let LA be destroyed instead.
