the specific case of KSM has been endlessly argued already. what will happen is that you will post a lot of right-wing sites arguing that he was a clear and present danger, i'll find a bunch of left-wing sites responding to those sites, and you'll find a bunch of right-wing sites responding back, and what we'll end up doing, by proxy, is rehashing an argument that's already been had a thousand times.

you get to have your beliefs on KSM, and i'll have mine. i'm gathering it may not be entirely in the best of taste to extend this exchange on a thread that's on a delicate, and only tangentially related, subject. we should quit on a note of marginal agreement.

He dunked a child in water. That's assault. Water boarding would also be assault. Hell, yelling at someone is considered assault. What he did should probably be considered battery.

Is water boarding torture? I think it is. I think if you have to ask, then you probably already know, and the principle ethical moral that is being abused here is that we're using legal definitions to try to define something that is not clearly defined, and we're trying to flirt with what is and isn't. Obviously that's just wrong, and what's worse is that our definition isn't as important as the definition of the middle east. They're the ones we're trying to win over.
