Fighting childhood obesity been done for the last decade... removing soft drink & snack machines from public schools, reducing fat & salt in school lunches, etc. She just took up the torch for something easy... and something that would benefit her friends at SEIU.
You claim that "Fighting childhood obesity been done for the last decade," but the evidence clearly shows that whatever such "fighting" has occurred has been ineffective. Your solution, implicit in your suggestion that she pursue other objectives, is simply to give up. Mrs. Obama has chosen to use her public prominence to work toward an important objective whose achievement would be very beneficial to the nation and its people. If you and Michelle Malkin think that such a project is unseemly, or that it is motivated by some personal agenda, that reveals a great deal about your own willingness to support the nation and its people, and/or to work towatd the common good.

When you point out that a child is fat you are targeting that child.

But saying a child is fat is not the same as saying it is their fault for being that way.

Yeah, I'll take full responsibility for America's fat kids. *rolls eyes*

"work toward the common good" -- there's that socialist phrase all the cons just love to hear. Think we'll all be assigned the task of jerking an ice cream cone outta some fat kid's hands? You know, 'for the common good' of our young people?

I have a difficult time taking Michelle Malkin seriously.

The lady is a lying piece of trash, whose popularity is only propagated by those discarding the truth in favor of partisan rhetoric.

The simple fact is obesity is an epidemic in this country. American stuff themselves with garbage day in and day out. Type 2 diabetes used toi be called adult onset diabetes. The name went away because it became a misnomer as the age that people were diagnosed with type 2 become younger and younger.

I have a hard time thinking of a reason to criticize the First Lady over this. I think this is an excellent project she has tackled. The only thing more petty and more ridiculous than criticizing her for this is claiming it is a conspiracy to benefit a union. Quite possibly one of the more preposterous things I have read, and certainly befitting of the intellectual farce that is Malkin.

For Christ's sake people, start thinking and stop letting crappy pundits do it for you.

Yes because we should all be working for the detriment of society- and the good of the upper 1%.

Interesting comments by a former 'welfare mother.' No doubt spending hours playing video games and watching TV doesn't help the problem of obesity in children:

Quote:
Unfortunately the scare policy of the media over the past 20 years has caused parents to fear allowing their children the ability to play outside except in the safest of neighborhoods. My children love to play outside and would play outside all day all year if they could but when they go out theres always that little voice in your head that starts worrying about the loony child snatchers. Imagine what it must be like for those in a crime infested area. Those kids really have no chance to play outside for fear of the gang bangers and drug dealers. They still have to walk to the gym if the city offers rec centers. People blaming EBT for obesity are ill informed. When I was laid-off from my well paying job I was glad EBT was there to help my family, and we did not eat crab legs but we sure couldn't stretch the money very far if we bought fresh fruits and Omega-3 rich fish. We needed to buy lots of pasta and ground meat, not exactly healthy food, but my children are well within medical guidlines for height and weight.
Another comment:

Quote:
Here comes more BS from he Obama team -- a recent study concluded "with 98% certainty" that the cause of childhood and much of adult obesity is (hold onto you seats) "excess sanitation". "This is the largest enviornmental change in the last 50 years in that developed countries have increased sanitation to the extent low level chronic disease and effects of parasits are nearly non existant". "The consequece of this condition is "excess appitite" and "efficiency of digestion" by humans in this hyper sanitation enviornment". "Frankly, according to Hoffmann et al, kids do not eat dirt anymore, they watch TV, Video Games, Computer communication and in some houslholds even routinly used sanitary wipes to ensure nearly germ and parasite free enviorment". "An additional contributor is rapid healing of various routine and potentially serious diseas in which thos aflicted in the past lost considerable weight". BET MICHELLE WILL GO AFTER THIS - RIGHT? NO, SHE WILL BLAME MCDONALDS AND EVIL BUSINESS LIKE HER EQUALLY SCIENTIFICLLY CHALLENGED HUSBAND.

That is the underlying truth of the issue.

I have some anecdotal evidence, for what it is worth. I work in sales and one of my customers called me to look at finding ways to reduce her costs for her service. She had left her job at an advertising company and couldn't afford the package of services she's subscribed to. According to this customer, the advertising firm she worked for had been hired by Kellog's. Her company came up with the K-sentials advertising campaign. Apparently, Kellog's had a marketing dilemma. They had so refined their product that the FDA required them to pump vitamins into their cereal in order for it to be considered food. K-sentials was the marketing spin on that process.

K-sentials...the minimum nutritional value required for the FDA to consider something food.

When all is said and done it is not the government's business. It is the parents business. This is just another step in the direction of controlling that the government wants to take. Michelle Obama would have done well to have picked up the mantle of helping the homeless find homes rather than taking on fat kids. Apparently fat kids are getting enough to eat, homeless folks have no home.
