Default Alito and the Supreme Court

I have seen a lot of ridiculous things on this site concerning judge Alito. What people dont seem to understand is how the Supreme Court works.
If you are a justice, you are generally either a Strict Constructionist (Alito) or a 'Liberal Interpreter'. If you were to, say, try and overturn Roe v. Wade, that would be considered a Liberal Interpretation of earlier judicial precedent. Alito is a Strict COnstructionist, which essentially means he believes in keeping things the way they are now, which includes PRESERVING precedents. He may not like abortion and all of that, but as soon as you step into the SUpreme Court, partisan politics gets the boot.
Just by saying "we need more liberals/conservatives on the bench" you are showing you have no idea how the system works. These is no way to really predict how justices will vote, as history has shown us.
Alito, while politically conservative, is a believer in the supremacy of the rule of law. This man has been a judge for years.

I can understand wanting congressman or Presidents to be either liberal or conservative, but trying to suggest putting a certain political ideology into the Supreme Court goes against what the Supreme COurt is, and what it stands for.

Peace

Default Agreed

But generally speaking, strict consructionists are also politically conservative, so the two go hand in hand to an extent. You are right about Roe v. Wade, and I agree with you that I don't think he will vote to overturn it since he respects stare decisis. However, I do strongly believe that he will vote to restrict Roe v. Wade if and when it comes to the Supreme Court. This is where the real debate over Roe v. Wade should be since there is little or no chance that it will get overturned.
