Okay, this is my new plan. I would charge a one-time 20% tax on the net worth of all Americans to pay off the national debt, use price controls on all medical care and prescriptions to keep medical costs flat (adjusted only for inflation) and moderately cut military spending. Otherwise, I would leave taxes, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security as they are now. I would keep the minimum wage where it is now (adjusting it for inflation in the future) and immediately trade freely with all nations. I appreciate all replies. Thank you very much.

would be to impose a 20% tax on Spending, including gasoline, and give tax breaks for education. Adopt a health insurance program like Switzerland.

I like that you are so strongly supportive of fiscal responsibility, but such a drastic tax would lead to economic catastrophe. Any plan to help stop the growing debt problem would have to be somewhat gradual (or as gradual as possible)

My father would pay about $6,000, which is much less than his annual combined federal and state taxes. My plan would temporarily halt economic growth, but with better health care and no deficit to weigh down on the economy, there would be a quick recovery. After months of indecisiveness, I have finally made up my mind about economics. I still have to do some thinking about social issues, though.
