This is what upsets me. Why am I typing on the Internet while millions of people per year are starving to death? On the other hand, why am I still having medication problems when the wealthy have fleets of yachts? Most poor people aren't lazy. I know because I've met a lot of them. Most of them are just unlucky. It is unconscionable that I have so much more than others who put even more effort into life than I do, and it is still unjustified, though less culpable, that I have less than others who put less effort into life than I do. If there is a way of equalizing everyone without causing universal poverty, I will find it.

Okay, I'd just raise taxes on the highest income bracket to 50% and close all corporate tax loopholes.

sympathize with your moral dilemma but I.M.O. it is pointless to expect to get alot of taxes from corporations- in an era of globalization, they can always find ways to escape taxes or the can pass the expense on to the consumer. It is more appropriate to tax wealth. Unearned income should be taxed more heavily than earned income. Sales taxes are O.K. as long as they exclude food, health care , clothing and housing. Yeh, I know that someone will find fault with any sort of tax system but someone has to pay the tab and the question is how to craft a system that is relatively fair and does not stifle incentive. Its past time to shrink the defense budget or expect the wealthy to pay for it - they are the ones who benefit from it.

It's sickening what the rich do. They essentially say, "Tax us and we'll sulk and throw everybody into a recession, but cut our taxes and we might throw a few crumbs to the poor". I went crazy again recently thanks to problems with my prescriptions (as you already know if you've seen my recent posts), and some already wealthy corporate executive is getting richer off my insanity. Of course, I live in paradise compared with those who actually do live in poverty, and meanwhile the rich must have their parties and their yachts.

Here is the thing. Someone had to put the money into researching medicine in order to develop it properly. Someone has to come up with the ideas. Someone has to market it. IF we pose extremely high taxes on those that are responsible for these unmistakably important tasks, we will discourage production and ultimately send companies overseas.

In other words, as I feared, Social Darwinism is inevitable. I'll continue to fight it in vain, though.

Why is it that you only look at the negative aspect of man? Man is not angel nor beast, he is a mix of both convicted to the (*)(*)(*)(*)ation of original sin yet granted his God given rights and abilities of Reason, Imagination, and emotions. When Reagan did a across the board tax cut in the 80's revenue went up as well as private donations to charities due to the fact the more people had extra money to spend. Fact is people aren't going to let individuals starve to death simply because they can't afford it, people who can help will help. THe difference is that under smaller government people are granted more personal as well as economic freedom, granting them more power over their personal decisions and where more of their money is going. You seem to live under the delusion that anyone who made it big is going to throw everyone else under a truck. Which simply is not the case, and doesn't exist. Sure there are some who have wealth that are out right lier's and losers, who desire to do nothing more then take everything they can get and look out for number one and destroy everything else. But you can find people like that in any class, religion, race, gender, sexual identification, ideology or whatever box you want to brained people with. Fact is though that their are many more people who aren't like that, people who use their freedom to better the lives of themselves and others. That is freedom its as Frank Meyer said those many years ago (well like 40)

Quote:
“Unless men are free to be vicious, they cannot be virtuous."- Frank S. Meyer
Socialism can promise a man food and shelter, things promised to a prisoner or to a slave. But Socialism ignores mans Spiritual and intellectual side, it doesn't recognize that we dream to reach the stars, or that we desire to fight and gain things, nor that we desire to protect and conserve and help thoes around us. It steals man of his freedom and liberty and gives him low quality food and health care in return.

So is your signature... and so is the far-flung rhetoric of somebody who rationalizes away human misery with rhetoric associating capitalism with the "spiritual".
