You left out Amos Oz, Force! But I understand that you had to scale it back. I would question Oppenheimar's achievements (no less than he did himself), and Elvis would not qualify as a Jew...well, not in the state of Israel anyway...

It is the maternal line, but the maternal line must be a consistently maternal line through each generation, and devout Christians are precluded anyway...

Well, the above list includes only people who are ethnically Jewish. I wasn't even counting converts to Judaism, and the list is based on ethnicity rather than religion.

Jews aren't an ethnic group. It's about the same as calling Christians an ethnic group. You can convert to Judaism (not easily, but it can be done), that does not change your ethnicity.

Anyway, why is this forum so stuck on Jews?
