Default Good Idea except...

good idea. I've been advocating it for a while. Also corporations wouldn't be able to fund candidates into siding with them. The only exception is that I think it should be a higher amount of signatures because otherwise it would cost alot. For state and local elections it could be a small amount but for national it should be a lager amount of signatures.

Default .

The UK is seriously considering doing public financing for parties (there not going to do it though as it would bankrupt the major parties). I was considering it myself until i read a great letter in the new statesman. It said something like 'do you want your tax money to finance a racist party?'

Just ban political advertising. Stick to leaflets and canvasing, no need for mountains of money for that.

Well, I understand your concern about that, but I don't think that the British National Party will ever win in Britain, just as I don't think that a racist candidate will ever become President here in America. As it is, we give money to corporations and other major organizations (universities, media groups, unions...) in our daily lives that goes to the two major parties (at least it does here in the U.S.) and that unfairly shuts out third parties that may have better platforms or, at the very least, may force the two major parties to become serious about reforms they would otherwise ignore.

Well, rallies and tours win over many people, and well-organized rallies and tours cost a lost, and banning them would give the government too much authority. Public financing isn't perfect, but it is the best solution to campaign problems that has been brought to my attention so far.

Tell you what, just put everyone on a equal wage. Then no-one can bankroll a party.

Force i agree that the system needs to be changed but i don't think that public funding for parties is the answer. As far as I'm concerned elections are one of the few things the government shouldn't have role in. Elections should be contested between people not by government funded organizations. As usual i'd say a more local government allows for 3rd party candidates to get through.
