Another Direction for Immigration
Of course I'll always continue to say the primary reasons for illegal immigration are: Mexico's crappy economy and corrupt government and barriers to immigration. Now people say "Who cares?" After all, we want a short-term solution and we're all divided on different ends of how to achieve that.
Why can't the peasants who come here go back to Mexico and change it for the better? Wouldn't that fix everything?
They're peasants. That's why. Maybe urban peasants, but peasants. Uneducated. No skills. No political clout. No idea what they'd do with the country if they ever managed to kick the status quo off kilter.
So here's an interesting direction to look into:
Get illegals to go back... after educating them in civics, economics, engineering, business, etc., etc. Send them back as people who are motivated and have the power to change Mexico. Give them the entrepreneurial vision they (along with most of us these days) lack and send them to a place where capital is cheap and investments will pay off heavily- home.
I don't know the details.
What's great about this is that the right will hate it because it means educating the illegals and the left will hate it because after doing it, we send them back. I think it should be a one time thing. That way people don't come over for it... but then again, that would expediate the process, wouldn't it? Probably too expensive in the short run though.
I can already see the flaws. Anyone have any ideas on how to use this direction?
