I am interested in people's solutions to this question.
I am also interested the problems that people have with this question.... There is a large faction of Muslims, tens of millions or more, of many stripes and beliefs who accept and promote the idea that the murder of innocents is perfectly allowable under the umbrella of Islamic Jihad. These Islamic Jihaddists are joined by Arabs who are nominally Muslim who also engage in this form of terrorism to promote their own nationalistic; pan-Arab; tribal; and despotic ends. The majority of these murders are committed against their fellow Muslims and/or Arabs. The daily attacks in Iraq; the assassinations and bombings in Pakistan; the battles in Afghanistan; the near civil war amongst the Arabs called Palestinians; are all examples of Muslims, claiming to be fighting for Islam, murdering their fellow Muslims. Nonetheless, in addition to murdering their own fellow Muslims, Muslims continue to murder non-Muslims, from Nigeria to New York; from Saudi Arabia to Indonesia; and from Russia to Israel, The avowed goal of these Islamic Jihad death cultists is to make “their” faction of Islam the dominant religion on earth, conquering all others and establishing their Islamic hegemony over the world. There is an overall Islamic obsession with murder and destruction in achieving these goals of world hegemony. The reason for these murders and destruction vary amongst the different Islamic factions: They result from a belief that “their” land is being violated – such as their incessant attacks against Israel. They result from a belief that “their” culture is being violated – such as their attacks against the United States; India; Spain; Russia; and other non-Muslim countries. And, they result simply from the idea that their religious beliefs are being violated – such as their Cartoon Jihad; the incessant internecine warfare between Shia, Sunni, and other Muslim factions; or their attacks against Arab or nominally Islamic countries throughout the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. This kind of warfare, destruction and murder in the name of Islam has been ongoing since the inception of Islam. Due to the unlimited funding of the oil rich Muslim nations of the Middle East and through the advent of modern technology and communications, this Islamic Jihad desire for world dominance has grown and prospered over the last fifty years until we have the logical next step in this saga where a Muslim theocracy, Iran, proclaims that it will use its resources and technology to acquire nuclear weapons in order to wage nuclear war against the infidels. This lust for blood and death appears to be an ongoing process that is never going to stop, unless the Islamists themselves begin preaching and teaching that death and destruction is not the way to world hegemony and that this deadly Jihad against the world is not the way to their Islamic heaven. My question is then – how? How does the world get Islam, a religion of over a billion adherents, with ten of millions or more who believe in their bloody Islamic Jihad, to stop murdering mass numbers of innocent people and to cease their goal of world conquest rooted in this orgy of death and destruction?

I think a good start is for the U.S. to quit training people from other countries in covert war. You have Mexicans who came here and trained then went back in Mexico and joined the Drug Organizations than need their skills of assinations and terror techniques.
Osama was trained by us and I'd bet almost all terrorists were either trained here or recieved training from someone that was trained here. Making all drugs legal would break their backs completely. Most of terrorism is funded by the illegal drug trade. Take the money away and they will go away. Most people hate to admit that when they say not to legalize all drugs they are agreeing with terrorist, Mafia and rougues of all types who never want drugs to be legalized. . |

1. Take all bodies of killed terrorists and suicide bombers and bury/burn them covered in pigs blood. The british used this a long time ago to great effect. (Islam is big on death rites, and being covered in pigs blood is a big no no = Hell)
2. I firmly believe, right or wrong, that this problem would go away if the economic situation in that part of the world vastly improved. People with a mortgage and 2 kids in college find better things to do than blow themselves up. This is a very simplified answer to a very complex problem, but I hope you get the gist. There are numerous ways to improve the economics over there, of which I shall let you decide. |

.... isn't working. Unfortunately, there's no immediate gratification on this one. It would be nice to see a declining trend though. Instead, we're seeing exactly the opposite. Yet another example of this admin's implementation turning into a big pile of dog-doo in a very short time frame.
I agree that the economic issue is important. However, that's not all there is too it. Islam is an ancient religion that's very rich with history, and in a certain sense the resentments that some people feel in that regard are mirrored in Eastern Europe, parts of Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and etc etc. Islam has no central authority. There's no one like the Pope who can issue papal edicts and set the rules. In Islam, anyone with the minimum amount of religious training can issue a fatwa, which will be obeyed by anyone who wants to obey it. There are some Islamic organizations here in the US that are trying to reach out to Muslims world-wide, and deliver messages of tolerance, peace, and mutual understanding based on the contents of the Quran and the Hadith, but unfortunately they're stigmatized in advance by being based in the US. Back starting in the late 50's, there were the competing ideologies of pan-Islamism and pan-Arabism, both of which have since fallen by the wayside. Neither has any real champions at the moment. The most "common" (in both sense of that word) feeling I can point to in the Islamic world is one of disenfrachisement. Islam has always felt itself an underdog to begin with, but this feeling grows more intense in the current geo-political context. One thing that would definitely help, would be for US politicians to start recognizing international Islamic leaders, and sit down and talk with them (ie do them the honor of making a pilgrimage to their home turf, such as they consider it to be). The current bozo-in-chief has exactly the opposite viewpoint, which is to cut off funding and political ties anytime he thinks they're getting out of hand. One has to understand, that Islam represents an entirely different culture. They don't subscribe to Western values, and never will. They have their own values that are embodied in their religious texts and in their histories, and no amount of clobbering or cajoling is going to change those. But as with Christianity, the real question is which values one chooses to "emphasize". Christianity went through its dark ages too, where it was trying to "force" people to believe the right thing. That worked for several hundred years, as the Church was consolidating its political power. In traditional Islam, religion and politics are one and the same, there's no differentiation between them. Fundamentalists wish to maintain that conjunction, and perceive those who do not as being "bad Muslims". So the long and short of it is, that what you're suggesting ("addressing the terrorism component"), can only be done (IMO) with a multi-pronged and multi-faceted concerted effort. And it won't happen overnight. The only thing I know for sure, is that whatever we're doing right now, is producing exactly the opposite results from the ones we want. |

Thank you for a reasoned response. I pretty much disagree with your "causes and conclusions," but yours is a useful viewpoint.

It is not the fault of the President that most Muslims are afraid to speak out against the excessive violence of their culture. Quote:
The difficulty lies with an Islamic tendency to let the radicals hijack the religion and redefine what Justice and Law mean. This has happened over and over again throughout Islamic history, as it has also happened in other religions. But the other major religious groups have adopted concepts of Law and Justice that are deliberately held separate from the religious identity of the individual. Admittedly, this has taken a very long time, but it is true today, certainly in the United States and parts of the rest of the world. The problem lies with how to free Muslims interested in Law and Justice from the fear and insanity engendered by the current Islamist death cultists. Quote:
Our dilemna is how to discredit their nightmare visions and change the course of Islam for the ordinary Muslim... Quote:
What we are doing now, however ineptly, is "the stick." We are whacking the evil people that need to be whacked and creating doubt in the minds of would be terrorists that, perhaps, this is not the best option. What is needed is a broad based "carrot." Which, as near as I can tell, will only come from within Islam itself. I do not believe we have the hundreds of years that it took Christianity to reform itself...

Maybe it might help for someone to explain why and when it became "Islam"? Is there such a thing as just a "muslim"? Or are all muslims, Islamic Muslims?
I might have this all mixed up but I was under the impression that when it was just "Muslim" long ago that they were the world leaders in science and just about every progressive thing. When the Islam movement took over they believed all science was evil and executed those people and is the reason they seem like they came from a bygone era in their thinking. |
