Default Pedophilia now legal in Colorado?

15 years old? And maybe legal as low as 12 years old? Where do these judges come from? I could do a better job than this. Do you ever get the feeling these rich people live in a different world than the rest of us? Or is this just one more thing to destroy anything that resembles a civilized society?

Colorado Court Rules Girls Can Marry at 15
Judges Say Law Permits Even Younger Brides and Grooms
By JON SARCHE, AP

DENVER (June 15) - A 15-year-old girl can enter into a common-law marriage in Colorado, and younger girls and boys possibly can, too, a state appeals court ruled Thursday.

While the three-judge panel stopped short of setting a specific minimum age for such marriages, it said they could be legal for girls at 12 and boys at 14 under English common law, which Colorado recognizes.

Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald said she was appalled by the ruling and said lawmakers need to look at the issue next year when the Legislature reconvenes.

"That's a child. You're taking advantage of an undeveloped person, putting them in a situation that's for life. That's something we need to take a look at," the Democrat said.

The ruling overturned a lower-court judge's decision that a girl, now older than 18, was too young to marry at 15.

The panel said there was no clear legislative or statutory guidance on common-law marriages, and that Colorado courts have not determined an age of consent.

For traditional ceremonial marriage, Colorado law sets the minimum age at 18, or 16 with parental or judicial approval.

Colorado is one of 10 states, plus the District of Columbia, that recognize common-law marriage, which is based on English law dating back hundreds of years.

"It appears that Colorado has adopted the common-law age of consent for marriage as 14 for a male and 12 for a female, which existed under English common law," the ruling said. "Nevertheless, we need only hold here that a 15-year-old female may enter into a valid common-law marriage."

The appeal was filed by Willis Rouse, 38, who is serving time for escape and a parole violation. He argued that he and the girl began living together in April 2002 and applied for a marriage license a year later.

The girl had become legally independent by then, but her mother also consented to the marriage and accompanied the girl and Rouse to obtain a license, the ruling said.

A judge invalidated the marriage, saying anybody under age 16 needed judicial approval for either common-law or ceremonial marriage.

While Thursday's ruling found that the girl was old enough to marry, it did not conclude whether she and Rouse have a valid marriage. The court sent the case back to the trial judge to make that determination.

There needs to be some movement to get rid of old, dusty laws that don't make sense in modern society.
A law was ressurrected in Michigan a few years back about swearing in front of women being illegal and they put a guy in jail.
Some judges are just big on word of the law and that means this judge was going by a legitimate decision... just a dumb one.

The case you cite involved swearing at a sustained, particularly loud, relentlessly vile rate --- in front of many kids, and others, at a lake. Some loudmouthed drunken yahoo fell out of a boat or off a dock and got wet. Wow, what a sterling reason to curse for so long he was still doing it when the cops ticketed his vulgar self.

Can we afford to allow popular culture to take precedence over parental authority's choice not to hear such language used around their kids? I say no. I'd tell the bozo in the wet T-shirt to jam the shirt down his throat, before I did.

Can we afford to allow parental authority over the environment around kids extend to the point that we waste the time of the police and courts, as well as the space in jail on a minor offense that if anything should be handled with a fine? No.
There are a lot of stupid people in the world. At some point you have to communicate in the manner which my dad summarized as "If I catch you doing that &%*$, I'll kick your @$$". To this day I don't swear around my dad without a symptomatic twitch. That's parental authority.

But as relevant to the topic at hand, the law is outdated. Public drunkeness, disturbing the peace, whatever. This law is about cussing at any volume under any context in front of a woman or child. Personally I'm amazed the feminists didn't jump all over that one, so antiquidated that it places women on the same level as children.
In the meantime we have more agrarian laws that are being ressurrected to bypass age of consent laws?
We need to find a way to clean out these old law books. Too many laws, not enough sense.

The 'Boulder culture' (home of Colorado University ((CU)) of Colorado is corrupt to the core with liberalism. The more graduates it produces, the more the entire state suffers. CU is definitively anti-American, pro-gay, Marxist, atheistic, and hateful toward everything traditionally Western, as in European. I loathe CU. It should be relocated to Beijing, China, ASAP.

I actually agree that it is too young, but it is technically not Pedophelia. Because both parties are underaged. Pedophelia is an adult having sex with a child. A 15 year old is not an adult.

Who is that Judge, anyway? He must be a pedophilia himself, the worm!

I'd stuff his head in the meat grinder, the creep!

What is his name? I will email him and give him a dose of my Ginna-temper!
