Poll: Voters not buying sales tax increase

June 17, 2006 Poll: Voters not buying sales tax increase

A Quinnipiac University poll found 60 percent of New Jersey voters oppose Gov. Jon Corzine's proposed 1 percent sales tax increase, which is seen by a number of Democrats as the only alternative to help close a $4.5 billion budget deficit. The poll showed that the opposition comes from all groups. The poll results came in as Senate Democrats began voicing support for the increase, saying there is no other alternative to help close a projected $4.5 billion budget deficit.
I would have thought more people would be against raising taxes.
