View Poll Results: Where are you on the open/closed-minded continuum?
I am basically open-minded. I can be convinced by an opposing view. My flatus smells of potpourri 5 83.33%
I am pretty closed-minded. Winning the argument for my 'team' is more important to me than an honest debate. I won't admit it when I realise I'm wrong. I sometimes kick the cat when I'm angry. 0 0%
I am a troll. I didn't get enough hugs as a kid. Essentially my behaviour reflects a tragic breakdown of ego-boundaries whereby I am impelled to project my deep self-loathing onto others. Pity me. 1 16.67%

Default Are you excessively partisan?

Watching someone trying to prove the unprovable on a thread recently made me think about the needless intransigence there is in many discussions on PF. Pretty much everyone that posts is partisan to some extent (myself included). Fair enough; that's probably why we're here. But when people are unwilling to acknowledge obvious flaws in their logic even when they are pointed out, or blatantly ignore inconvenient facts, I ask myself what the point of the debate is for them. Do they just like the sound of their own typing or what? My unscientific assessment based on, oh, about 5 seconds consideration, is that on PF we have roughly 9% trolls, 54.7% closed-minded and 36.3% open-minded.

So, some self-examination please. If you feel you fall between 2 options and can't decide which you are closest to, by all means 'round up' in the direction of greater open-mindedness. For example, Quiller could go for 'pretty closed-minded'.

I screamed at my TV when I realized that almost eveery Democrat in Congress voted for Amnesty and no border enforcement, regardless of how much money they get from the Unions.

I was shocked when I learned that it was Democrats, and Democrats only, who promoted slavery 160 years ago.

Democrats as a Party always do the wrong thing, their representatives in Congress, President, or Supreme court always do the wrong thing.

I finally realized the cosmic evil that controls the Democrats, envy and hatred of the rich.

I don't know you tell me, am I too partisan?

Calling it retarded is far too generous.

Where is the "careful critical thinker" choice? I'm talking about the kind that approaches all sides with a certain level of skepticism.

I would say I'm partisan to an extent, but not across the board. Traditionally, I have agreed with Republicans more on financial matters, and more with Democrats on social matters. That pretty much sums up the extent of my partisanship. Lately though, I've not been agreeing with the Democrats or Republicans on much of anything. I have been mainly just voting on specific local issues, not so much on representatives.

Where do you go if you're a hard-headed idealist, but not partisan?
I don't see myself on any "team" but I'm pretty stuck in most of my ideological core. I can be swayed over on hard things like science or utility of policy... but not on basic ideals.
Frankly, I figure if you can get swayed on basic ideals, you probably didn't have any to begin with.

That's a polite way to put it and that's why I didn't vote in this stupid poll.

I would say most of the so called conservatives on this forum are completely unable to admit when their "team" is wrong. Its like they are on some kind of a permanent campaign mode.

As for myself: I dont think i have a "team" but i dont always admit being wrong even if i am.
