Default Are guns a good thing or a bad thing?

recently there have been many school shootings. quickly after the amish school shooting, Rosie O'Donnell claimed this is proof that guns should be banned.

on one hand, guns kill people and allowing less gun law will allow teenagers and gangs and whatnot easier access to guns. guns are easy access already and school shootings are proof.

on the other hand, gun control is wrong. a law-abiding citizen should be able to carry a gun to defend themself because gun control will only keep law-abiding citizens from getting guns. if you are premeditating it, you're going to do it whether it's legal or not. the Pearl, Mississippi shooting is proof.

What do you think?

Guns are only tools that are wrongfully used IMO to excuse the actions of the individuals who use them by people like Rosie O'Donnell...

Besides if there where no guns it would be swords..or daggers..or axes..or clubs..or rocks...
Violence didn't suddenly arrive because of the relatively recent development of the gun.

Guns are not bad ..the people who use them to commit bad acts are bad. No gun has ever animated itelf and gone on a killing spree.

The trump card is that any politician who tries to grab our guns will become a DEAD politician. The Second Amendment despite the Brady Bill is not, repeat, NOT negotiable. That amendment and the right to bear arms protects us from our government.

Responsible gun ownership and not unnecessary and prohibitive legislation is the answer. If you have kids, buy and use a trigger-lock. If you have kids and you live in an area likely to experience a break-in....I suggest you leave the lights out and just wait. Why look for trouble? It'll find you on its own.

As for the detestable Rosie O'Worthless, the First Amendment is one we also share in common. I'm that trouble she found, spouting rubbish.

Default Liberty for Security

Americans today seem ready enough to cede their First Amendment rights for the sake of their security; one wonders how they would react if the government decided that national security required the suspension of their rights under the Second Amendment.

By your logic I can think of no reason why we should not be allowed to buy .50 caliber machine guns and stinger missiles.

Perhaps there is a flaw in your logic? And be careful when you try to correct it or you might just make an argument against all guns... so be thoughtful in your deliberations.

P.S. I need a howitzer to protect my border ranch from illegals... thoughts?

Default Arguing With Gun Nuts

There seems little point in arguing; you will never convince a gun nut to part with his beloved firearms. The philosopher Schopenhauer advised against engaging in argument, maintaining that no one was ever convinced of anything by it other than their own opinions, however wrongheaded. See Arthur Schopenhauer, Parerga and Paralipomena, Selected Essays (1851). In this regard, I recently had a discussion with a gentleman in a bar, who, during the course of conversation asserted flatly that he had a “God-given” right to own a gun. Prudence dictated that I not question what portion of the Scriptures he was relying upon for such “high” authority, as I was convinced that he would brook no argument on the subject.

Guns are not inherently good or bad, they are objects and thus do not possess these qualities. Make no bones about it, the second amendment has been under fire for some time now. It's sickening to see the infringements upon this natural right taken by the government already. The assault continues as well, there are always going to be those whom wish to strip us of our guns. Yet it is important to understand the rights one has, and I do have the innate right to protect my body, my property, and my liberty from threats; be those threats from some random jerk on the street or from the government itself.

Nice, aren't we all high and mighty. Condescension aside, are you saying people do not have the right to defend their life, property, and liberty? Are these things not fundamentals? Should we all hold hands and sing songs instead?

Of course guns are not a good thing. They are a terrible thing. Much like nuclear weapons.
But can you think of a better deterrant than... another gun?
I can't.
Necessary evil, I guess.

We'd take up a collection to buy body-bags for politicians who voted that way. And then we would fill those bags with those same POS politicians.

The problem here is that by even CONSIDERING the government has the right to disarm us---or the right to even know WHO IS ACTUALLY ARMED---we go against the started-at-Day-1 concept of American freedom from oppressive government. Gun registration laws are simply inventory checkoff lists of where to go to grab an unwanted challenge to tyranny.

Whose government is it---theirs by divine right, or yours by free ballot, at gunpoint if necessary?
