You insinuate that America sticks its nose where it doesn't belong?
Whatever happened to the Truman Doctrine? What happened to giving support to struggling democracies? You imply that we are trying to be superheroes; the only true force stopping opression and tyranny from taking over the free world. Well, Karl, not too long ago that was the whole idea of it all. Just a few decades ago, we were that one force that kept all others in check. And now, just because Russia has collapsed, you think we ought to just shrink back into our shell and wait for you guys to screw it all up again? If anything, the world is in even greater turmoil than it was before. Now we face a far worse enemy than the Soviet could have ever hoped to be. Their ideology may vary, but their root goal is the same: total tyranny. You claim these conflicts aren't our concern but when it spills over into American soil, or threatens American interests, or harms our allies, it quickly becomes our concern. I don't know about you but America is not only a democracy; it's the strongest nation on this earth and that's something I'm very proud of. And the only thing that makes me proud is when I see democracy spreading. And that should be the biggest priority of any country that calls itself "free". You want to whine and moan because we "arrogant" Americans think we're hot stuff. It's only because we are. We are the superpower. We are the true leveling force that keeps the world in balance. That was established a long time ago and if you can't deal with it then go fist yourself. |

We too have our fair share of rednecks. Our treatment of the Aborigines has not been something to be proud of, but we are trying to come to terms with that issue. Never said for one moment that Australia was perfect. But we are ok. Good safe place to live (by and large) and, believe it or not, we even manage to co-exist with Muslims. Cheers, Karl |
