Thread: Reagan - 103% Spending Increase. Bush - 71% Spending Increase. Obama - 22% Increase

  1. Default Reagan - 103% Spending Increase. Bush - 71% Spending Increase. Obama - 22% Increase

Wow, numbers really do not back up the claims of Republican's these days. If Obama was allowed to do what Reagan and Bush did, our economy might be better off.

    (Numbers in billions)

    Reagan Spending
    Start: $551
    Finish: $1,122
    Increase: 103%

    Bush Spending
    Start: $1,827
    Finish: $3,119
    Increase: 71%

    Obama Spending
    Start: $3,119
    Current: $3,826
    Increase: 22%

The Republican's are literally holding the economy hostage with their anti-spending attitudes. Yet the Republican's had free reign to spend as much as they want in the past... and Reagan the biggest spender of all is wildly promoted as a fiscally conservative economic wizard. It is mind boggling how a country that is suffering from people not spending money wants to cut spending even more. Makes absolutely ZERO logical sense.

Why are you comparing 8 years of Reagan and Bush to just 2 years of Obama?

Just showing those that claim Obama has out of control spending and is the biggest spender of all time, that he is not even close.

    So let's compare Reagan's first 2 years 8 months to Obama's first 2 years 8 months.

    Reagan Spending
    Start: $551
    Finish: $797
    Increase: 44%

So you can see Reagan had spent double the amount Obama has at this point of time. So now what is your argument?

Yeah, because comparing the first 2 years with 8 years of both previous Presidents makes a lot of sense.

How does this refute the fact that Obama spent more than any of the previous Presidents?

It seems fair, considering Republicans have treated Obama (as bad as he has been) to some spending antiChrist. if you compare Obama to Reagan as a proportion of time in office Obama has spent less than Reagan relative to how long he has been in power.

Oh well, same old bull from the republicrats.

I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy and lies from the right. Obama is not as big of a spender as Bush or Reagan. And I already showed above that at this point during Reagan's first term he had increased spending by 44% compared to Obama's 22%.

But, the right will always just run to their usual dead talking points and act as if it was any different in 1980 than it is now.

These graphs tell a different story:

    Nope, it's the same story.

No he has far outpaced all Presidents that have proceeded him.

    So let's compare Reagan's first 2 years 8 months to Obama's first 2 years 8 months.

    Reagan Spending
    Start: $551
    Finish: $797

Here are that actual numbers and the deficit

    1982 745,743 (127,977)
    1982 808,364 (207,802)
    1984 851,853 (185,367)
    1985 946,396 (212,308 )
    1986 990,441 (221,227)
    1987 1,004,083 (149,730)
    1988 1,064,481 (155,178 )
    1989 1,143,829 (152,639)

So first fact you ignore is that each and every year the Congress authorized more spending than Reagan requested in his budgets. In fact had they accept his budget request and rescission the deficits would have fallen to $100,000 billion and had Bush41 not fallen for the Democrats promise to cut spending and held to his guns the deficits would have disappeared. And why did deficits fall, because the economy grew and revenues nearly doubled.

So how do the Obama/Democrat deficits compare to the last three Reagan year deficits?

His wasted stimulus spending alone puts him in a class by himself.
