Part of me longs for the days when I was a little boy and my biggest worry was my spot in the lineup for little league. But those days are long gone, and my picture of the World is quite different. While I still want to believe that people are inherently good, common sense and the events taking place around the world tell me otherwise.
The more and more I read about terrorists, Freedom Fighters, Oppressive Govt's, and genocide, the more I come to realize that there are a growing number of people out there whose purpose in life seems to be to bring pain and suffering to as many people as possible. And what makes them even more dangerous is that they are doing it in the name of God. As former superpowers and govt's destabilize, terrorists are becoming more organized, more advanced, and well-funded. It is not a matter of if they get WMD, it's a matter of when. The more I learn about their ideology, the more I am convinced that once acquired, these weapons will be used w/o hesitation. Our nation cannot always take the correct course of action and it may seem like we are only out for our interests, but make no mistake we are in a battle between good and evil. And evil in this case is not come country that we can attack, it is more like water that can permeate into any area or aspect of our lives and can attack us on any front w/o warning. It is hard for many of us to see b/c we have comfortable lives and do not want to see it. I fear for us and for the soldiers fighting for us on the front lines. How do you defeat an enemy who is fighting in the name of God is proud to sacrifice his life to defeat his enemy. How do you beat someone that keeps on getting up no matter how hard you hit them? We need to find a way. -Demosthenes

but when u compare them to people that come in to your country and kill your children and men for money ... i guess like what u defined terrorist... people who fight in the name of god ... some other people fight in the name of "weapons of mast destructions "... as u said : "terrorists are becoming more organized, more advanced, and well-funded. Yes terrorist organizations such as Al Qaeda are using their religion as an excuse and claim to be fighting in the name of their God. And I say their God b/c that is not my understanding of the Islamic scripture. In this topic I am talking about people who are attacking us and fighting their war b/c that is the purpose in their lives. If it weren't for war, people like Osama Bin Laden would have nothing. I understand that their are plenty of people in the Middle East who are genuinely fighting for their lives, many of the Palestinians, and the Sudanese. But I believe the majority of this fighting is being perpetuated by people who have no interest in peace what so ever. My proof? Anwar Sadat was assasinated by one of his own people for negotiating peace with Israel. Yitzak Rabin was assasinated by one of his own people for negotiating peace with Palestinians. The majority of people in the Middle East most likely want peace and just to live normal lives. I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about the minority who appear to do anything they can to stop the peace process.

In my experience, terrorism has been devastating and destructive, never peaceful or for the result of peace.
Much like violent protesting, the participants are proclaiming their lifestyle and the need for change. Ultimately. Yet the strikes that hit my nerves, are those that are purely spiteful. Sometimes, terrorists like to kill and destroy, because it expresses power... Because i have grown up with terrorism, its a dream of mine to help put an end to it. I wish that something could be done. And i deeply believe that reacting in violence will simply make matters worse. Though that doesn't mean to say making it worse will always be a bad idea. -FeatheredFool

Im only sixteen and so only know little knowledge of the world but i understand where demosthenes is coming from. I wake up and most days during the week violence, death, and yes evil is around us.The trouble with stopping it is you cant really as it depends on the people and choices they make.
Every day a person has to make choices and its when these religous fanatics make these decisions that bring terror and horror to the other people around them. I dont think a person can stop it either by violence upon violence like featheredfool said as its just a physical clash and doesnt result in anything. The only way i feel a person can change this is by over powering the evil with good, now how to do this is another matter, How does good beat the evil?? Well the only way i could see this from happening is by preaching the good word to the countries where these religious fanatics preach to young children to die for thier god. Its like a christian, a christian has to go out and preach the word of god well for this case you would have to preach how amazing life really is and how by destroying yours can destroy thousands. Bascically someone would have to preach LOVE. Which in the end would hopefully influence the persons choice.
