Default America's Choice

In 1952 Professor Arnold Toynbee predicted that Western civilization would be attacked by barbarian war bands. His claim was based upon his observations, published in "A Study Of History," that all declining civilizations became subject to attacks by barbarian war bands, and as Western civilization was declining, it too would be attacked.

On the 11th September 2001 Toynbee was proved right as 2,752 people were killed in a deliberate suicidal attack by a barbarian war band that destroyed the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York.

A civilization is a community that manages to impose its beliefs upon its neighboring communities by violence. Violence is necessary because this is the only way someone can be made to act against their own beliefs; and as a community is a shared set of beliefs, the only way one community can impose its understanding on another community is by violence.

For example, some communities believe that women should hide their faces in public, whereas other communities believe women should not hide their faces in public.

Regardless of what proponents of either belief claim, there is no rational way of deciding which belief is correct; so to resolve the issue one side must give way to the other.

Forcing people to act against what they believe requires the use of violence, which of course includes not just the use, but the threat of violence. Anyone who has handed over money at gunpoint will know that threat is an act of violence; so one community can dominate others merely by threat.

This simple principle means that different communities, which harbor different sets of beliefs, are irreconcilable enemies who will attempt to dominate each other through violence. This is why the history of humanity is the history of violent struggles: war.

Ancient Rome was a graphic example of a community that managed to dominate other communities through violence and compel the widespread adoption of its beliefs. 'Pax Romana' was obtained only by the violence inflicted by the Roman Legions upon all those who resisted ancient Roman domination.

The collapse of ‘Pax Romana’ and the Roman Empire started when the ancient Romans recoiled from violence and refused to countenance the mass slaughter of their enemies. Trapped between the advance of the Huns and the river Danube, a natural boundary of the Roman Empire, the Gothic nation faced extinction. Their attempts to force entry into the empire had already been repulsed with heavy losses, so they begged for, and received, from the Emperor Valens, permission to enter the Roman world. This act of mercy, the admission of a huge number of unconquered tribes of barbarians into the precincts of the Roman empire, lead inevitably to the destruction of the empire and the fall of Rome. After the Goths crossed the river they changed from refugees to invaders, killed the Emperor and sacked the Empire.

Hence a civilization can exist only as long as it dominates by violence all other communities, and the moment a dominant community recoils from violence, its rule is challenged. That is, it becomes attacked by all the other communities, in one way or another, as they attempt to assert their beliefs upon the faltering civilization.

Technology has now sped up the nature of war. Once it required massive human effort to conquer a nation by use of arms, now it does not: it requires just resolve and an advantage in technology.

The power of modern weapons means that an unknown attacker can destroy a city in a flash, which means that an undeclared enemy can destroy a group of cities, which is a community, in a flash. Technology has not only dramatically sped up the clash of communities, but it has introduced uncertainty as to the identity of the aggressor.

Now to wage war successfully a community must be ruthless, merciless, resolute and unhesitating: the moment it believes it can smite its enemies is the moment it must act. Otherwise, it will only discover that its enemies have acted when its own cities are incinerated.

Israel, an American ally, has been warned that it will be wiped off the face of the earth by its Iranian neighbor. This means that unless Israel razes Iran, Iran will make good its threat. The choice now facing Israel is the choice now facing all nuclear armed communities: inflict genocide or commit suicide.

American military efforts are now undermined by the timidity of the American nation for Americans fear to employ modern weapons. When General Douglas MacArthur made it clear that victory in Korea could be obtained only by using nuclear weapons, he was hastily removed from command: but he was right. The Korean War was not won, but concluded by a truce that has allowed the enemies of America to improve their weapons and become a much more dangerous threat to the USA than they were in 1953.

The once all-powerful Americans, who ruthlessly incinerated Nagasaki and Hiroshima, have declined into a people who believe nuclear war is 'unthinkable'. This is the opposite view of their enemies who publicly demonstrated their glee at the announcement of 911; imagine their joy at the news that New York had been vaporized: these people dream of wiping out America.

Americans can now easily crush their enemies, but every hour the USA does not use its present superiority in nuclear weapons to dominate other communities, is another hour given to its enemies to develop and use their nuclear weapons to eradicate the American community.

Americans have a choice: use nuclear weapons on their enemies or have their enemies use them on Americans; ruthlessly uphold 'Pax America' or blindly follow 'Pax Romana' into oblivion.

I agree with a lot of this, however I think that in the world we live in today, the threat of violence is good enough. This is what kept the Soviets at bay, against the USA, and vice versa.

I've always said that America needs to rattle it's sabers more. Not in as much as to bully other nations into our way of thinking. But to ensure our sovereign within our own borders. Currently, the USA is considered "weak" and "ineffective" in a military sense. Personally, I blame the government. Their constant "one-uppsmanship" and political posturing has put us at risk. Our enemies see this, and know that all they have to do is sit back and watch.

Now, all the peaceniks, and eco-hippies are going to accuse me of being a war-monger, but I digress....I haven't said that we need to invade anywhere. We do not need to occupy anyone (other than assisting a fledgling Iraq, get on their feet), and we really have no reason to show offense towards any other country, in a military sense. I'm just saying that the country needs some more Teddy Roosevelt. A soft voice, with a big stick to be used in defense of our nation.

I agree with BoogiePeople that we need to use the force when it is deserved and when you have a set target.

That being said........it should only be used in dire circumstances, it should not be used to try to influence people to think the way we think(which we are trying to do now), everything in our power should be done to try to stop it including securing our borders, securing transports into the country, securing people coming into this country.

Also, it seems to me that in this circumstance the best defense would be to use counter intelligence. Find out if anyone is "actually" a threat and take them out instead of waging a war with limited (some including me would say deceitful) information about the enemy and their capabilities when there are other countries with more firepower and about the same hatred for us.

The trillion or so dollars spent on this war could have been better spent on high tech satellite imaging of all countries, thousands of border control police, increased FDA inspections, etc. etc. If we go into the land of barbarians some would say we become barbarians.....we have committed torture since the war started something many use to think was barbaric.

Timisms: I thought you might want to know the straight story on Emperor Valens and the Goths. When the Goths applied for permission to enter the Roman Empire in an attempt to escape the Huns, Emperor Valens promised that they would be treated as allies and given food and land, in return for which the Goths would swear allegiance to Rome and provide military service when called upon. What happened? The Goths, upon entering the empire, were not given land as promised, they were given one dead dog for meat (if they sold a child into slavery in exchange for said dog meat ... a couple with more children could get more dog meat, if they sold more than one of their children as slaves), and were generally reduced to slavery themselves. And so the Goths rebelled. In short, Emperor Valens was a lying, deceitful politician who got his comeuppance at Adrianople and for his successors for the remaining 98 years of the history of the Empire. Had he simply been a man of his word, treated the Goths humanely, given them land as promised, and treated them as allies and perhaps even future citizens of Rome with all the rights and priviliges and duties and obligations pertaining thereunto, he could have changed the course of Roman history.

A good article Tim, what exactly is "America's choice" though? I would have entitled it "America's ultamatium", but there you go.

Strangely the people most worried about America being destroyed by the phantoms of "multiculturalism" are the least likely to have learned this historical lesson.

Default More proof for cause and choice

Seasoned investigative reporter and former FBI consultant Paul Williams reveals the alarming potential for nuclear terrorism on U.S. soil and the sinister connections among organized crime, illegal immigrants, and al-Qaida.

Recently, FBI Director Robert Mueller, in an interview with NewsMax, confirmed Williams' main claim. Mueller said al-Qaida's paramount goal is clear: to detonate a nuclear device that would kill hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Mueller told NewsMax that at times, the threat feels so real he lies awake at night thinking about the prospect.

Williams maintains that al-Qaida is not content on blowing up one nuclear device or even simply a "dirty" nuke — but wants to explode real nuclear devices in seven U.S. cities simultaneously.

Williams says these cities are New York, Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, Miami, Boston, Houston, and Los Angeles.

Mueller seems to confirm this claim of multiple attacks, saying both New York and Washington would be likely targets. Already Williams says the U.S. government has Washington webbed by "choke" points to detect nuclear material.

For many Americans the threat of al-Qaida's nuclear ambitions begins in the time after the horrific 9/11 attacks.

But as Williams shows so clearly, al-Qaida has been devising its nuclear plan since the early 1990s — and the U.S. government and other intelligence services have been well aware of al-Qaida's plan.

For example, Williams quotes Michael Scheuer, a senior CIA official who headed the agency's bin Laden unit.

Scheuer admitted the CIA "found that [bin Laden] and al-Qaida were involved in an extraordinarily sophisticated and professional effort to acquire weapons of mass destruction — in this case, nuclear weapons; so, by the end of 1996, it was clear that this was an organization unlike any other one we had ever seen."

Remember, Scheuer is describing the period before 9/11, proving again that bin Laden had been investing enormous time, resources, and money into getting nuclear weapons for more than 10 years.

Bin Laden and his adherents believe this nuclear cataclysm will usher in "The Day of Islam," the dream of radical Muslims to see all of humankind fall in submission before the throne of Allah as the "Great Satan," America, is brought to her knees.

Williams is not surprised at all that bin Laden has planned to launch such nuclear attacks, suggesting his delay is consistent with his past pattern of activities. For sure, it is a plan that has been long in its hatching.

Based on the "forgotten testimony" of the FBI's "Confidential Source One," as well as other sources, Williams first presents evidence of bin Laden's purchase of highly enriched uranium in Sudan and nuclear devices from the Chechens and the Russian Mafia.

He then offers further information on the workings of Pakistani scientists and technicians from the A.Q. Khan Research Facility to maintain and upgrade al-Qaida's "bespoke nukes" (with explosive yields in excess of 10 kilotons) for the "American Hiroshima."

Williams explosive revelations are even more worrisome because they are not simply backed up by speculation and anonymous sources, they are sourced with government reports and comments made "on the record" by top officials.

Among the explosive revelations in "The Day of Islam":

* In 1996, al-Qaida's "paymaster" and a top lieutenant for bin Laden walked into a U.S. embassy in Africa and spilled the beans on the terror group's activities — including that al-Qaida had purchased nuclear material in the Sudan
* The incredible story of a Brooklyn, N.Y., mosque that was receiving "stipends" from Uncle Sam for more than $2 million a year up until 1993 — when it was discovered the mosque was the nerve center for the first attack on the World Trade Center
* The fact that despite the hoopla about the war on terror, only one member of bin Laden's shura — or high command — has been killed
* The case of a Chicago charity that raised millions for bin Laden and even paid for one of his operatives whose sole job was to acquire nuclear weapons
* Evidence the Saudi intelligence service claims bin Laden has an arsenal of between 40 and 70 tactical nuclear weapons
* Russian sources that claim bin Laden bought 12 to 15 fully assembled nuclear weapons
* Ties between al-Qaida and the Chechen rebels who allegedly acquired nuclear suitcase devices
* Bin Laden's claim to a Pakistani journalist two months before 9/11 that acquiring nuclear was "not difficult" — claiming they were available from Russia for between $10 million and $20 million
* Author Tom Clancy's revelations he was "first bemused, then stunned" to find how easy it is for a wealthy person to develop a nuclear device equal to that dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
* How atomic blueprints are available from Amazon.com!
* Evidence bin Laden spent between $60 and $100 million to build nuclear devices with the help of scientists from Pakistan, Russia, and China
* The damage even a low yield "junk" nuclear device would do to New York — with an estimated 250,000 dead in several days
* The remarkable story of two British secret agents who penetrated al-Qaida's camps in Afghanistan — and reported to Britain that the terror group was finishing work on radiological weapons
* The stunning admission of the head of Britain's MI5 who confirmed that "renegade" scientists had provided al-Qaida with the knowledge they needed to build a nuclear device
* New Jersey: the strange case of a Pakistani who died of radiological poisoning soon after 9/11, a man who had apparently served as a "mule" to transport the deadly material into the U.S.
* Axis of Evil: the secret alliance between al-Qaida and Iran that brings together two religious groups with one common goal: destroying the U.S.
