Thread: Build more hospitals is a luxury

  1. Default

Well we can always use more hospitals. I suppose there is such thing as too much though. But I'm pretty sure we haven't reached it looking at how full the one by me is.

It's not a luxury. It's a basic necessity of life that helps life flourish. Pringles are a luxury. Yacht are a luxury. Video games are a luxury. Etc etc. Healthy should not be a luxury and the quality of healthcare should always aim to be higher.

I'm a person who believes the basic needs to live should be available to every person. Healthcare, education, protection (via police and army), etc.
Everything after that is bonus. Work harder get more stuff and become a millionaire or whatever you want to do.

And all of that doesn't actually work.

Your health system ranks 37th in the world, costs nearly 3 times as much as anywhere else, and seems to actually shorten your life expectancy.

And it still has the best health care outcomes and gives the most procedures in the world.

    Funny how that works.

    Huh?

Then why do you die earlier than us?

    More comedy accepted.

Life is expectancy is merely an advance mathematical equation. It's very complex and to explain it would just be a waste of time. It doesn't determine quality of health care. That is based on individual life choices.

All and all, you'll never find a single health care statistic which shows any health care has better ratings than the American system.

    Not an independent statistics anyway.

So your own media and research institutions are biased?

By REED ABELSON, The New York Times July 18, 2008

American medical care may be the most expensive in the world, but that does not mean it is worth every penny. A study to be released Thursday highlights the stark contrast between what the United States spends on its health system and the quality of care it delivers, especially when compared with many other industrialized nations.

The report, the second national scorecard from this influential health policy research group, shows that the United States spends more than twice as much on each person for health care as most other industrialized countries. But it has fallen to last place among those countries in preventing deaths through use of timely and effective medical care, according to the report by the Commonwealth Fund, a nonprofit research group in New York.

And isn't it rather the point of healthcare that it stops people from dying?
