Thread: An Excellent Opinion on the Decline of America.

America already has experience with the unbridled capitalism that the right-wing wants so much.

Slavery, child labor, company script, corruption at all levels were the result.

It was the labor movement, the New Deal, the Second New Deal and the Great Society that raised this country to a global power.

“Social Security has nothing to do with the deficit. Social Security is totally funded by the payroll tax levied on employers and employees. If you reduce the outgo of Social Security, that money would not go into the General Fund to reduce the deficit, that would go into the Social Security Trust Fund. So Social Security has nothing to do with balancing the budget or lowering the deficit.” –Ronald Reagan

I am working two part-time jobs and earn less in a month than I used to earn in one week before the plant I worked at was sold. I am seeing politicians throwing money at other countries and increasing the deficit while jobs are disappearing, and I don't see the average American receiving any benefits at all from the billions we've spent on invading Iraq, destroying the country and building it back up. I see zero benefit to the average American by our intervention in Afghanistan, Libya, Uganda, Pakistan, etc.

So I'd like to hear about the benefits these wars have brought to the people of this nation, not the corporations who profit from war, but the people who are paying for it.

Although, as a Democrat, the Great Society has led to more negative consequences such as de facto segregation, busing, development of the modern American slums, and the end of rugged individualism.

I would argue that the New Deal and the Second Deal were more successful and worthwhile than LBJ's Great Society, partially because the states would ask the federal government to engage in those initiatives. The Great Society was regulated federalism, and therefore more authoritarian.

Furthermore, it should be known that the abolishment of slavery was carried out by Republicans, not Democrats. Child labor, company script, and an end to corruption among businesses and government would be carried out by Progressives, who were eventually absorbed by the Democratic Party.

What he, and many other Americans, don't seem to realize is that America isn't -- and never can be -- a peaceful island in a wild Ocean.

How, for instance, is America going to compete with countries who invest massively in their people by e.g. providing free (or almost) higher education? You can find this ideologically disturbing, but the results are what count. As a result of this massive investments of European and Asian governments, now *economic mobility* and *economic growth* are higher in many European and Asian countries.
What most people don't realize is those countries that have a somewhat "successful" form of a socialistic government (Denmark ?) are homogenous.....unlike our country.

Some DIVERSITY is devoutly to be wished for.

However, America, with its PC laden BULLCHIT, blows up any of the advantages of MULTI-DIVERSITY into a DISASTER !!!

This is the very reason why we simply can't have Socialism because the average performance of a homogenous society can take care of the small percentage of its lowlifes.

This is not possible where a SIGNIFICANT proportion of the human garbage in America is significantly disproportionate.

We have EXTREME IGNORANCE & LACK OF EDUCATION of a sizable portion of our population: ~13% of our population are negroes. Despite its superb athletes, and entertainment geniuses ..... 90% of this category are basically ignorant parasites, potential and actual criminals, and reduce the average educational levels in our Secondary and lower educational System to the point where it is a joke.

And, this appalling situation is magnified TIMES TWO ..... by the flucking Illegal Immigrants.

And, let's not forget to add to the Black & Latino Trash the White Trash.....basically, the OWS -type of chitheads (and, they are also a significant number).

ENTITLEMENT AGENDAS to take care of this human garbage places an intolerable strain on ANY Economic System.

THERE ISN'T ANY ECONOMIC SYSTEM THAT CAN SUBSIDIZE THIS TRASH !!!

A Socialistic Govt with it's "entitlements" CANNOT POSSIBLY SUPPORT the HUGE DEFICIT that this HUGE LOAD of Human Trash causes.

The Enlightened Capitalistic System (buttressed with our wondrous Constitution) is the only solution to the HUGE DEFICIT that this HUGE LOAD of Human Trash causes.

The Enlightened Capitalistic system (buttressed with our wondrous Constitution) can only solve this seemingly impossible problem by IMPOSING MORE RESPONSIBILITY ON OUR HUMAN TRASH !!!

    PERIOD.

    END OF STORY.

Don't care about the rest of your article/opinion as soon as fox/oreilly was mentioned.
    Too bad.

Dunno if you fall into this category or not......

But, it's not unusual that Political Idiots choose to be Political Idiots.

    Nothing surprising there.

O'Reilly is paid $23 million a year to be a fool. There is no doubt Fox gets value for money. But on the OP. America has guaranteed its failure by not investing in:

    1. education
    2. child development
    3. infrastructure
    4. research and development
    5. American industry
