Just trying to be joking-like exposing the other side of the coin of how this can be this but that can't be this as like claim your house as your church and your belief as your religion. Churches is one of the biggest money makers around and high clergys have mansion everywhere from their rake and that money should go for taxes also just as we have to pay taxes in everything else. They got their ten-percent tithe from everyone and they need to pay their government's tithe to be out their with us also, especially since the Churches are what got Bush in his seat to begin with. They come out with that old gay-marriage crap at the time of election just like they used abortion during the Reagan campaign to make the republican look better than the democrat to the holy rollers.

jeremiah,

It looks like you hate Bush, and you hate religion who but Bush into power.
which means you find yourself in a war against god himself.

Tax's are good for the function of a government as long as the government only spends
it on protection(national security, Military etc.) and on protecting your rights(police, courts, etc.)
Other dam projects can go to hell. and the rich should have no tax brakes that poor people can't
afford to invest in either.

We would have no deficit, if government only spent what it had on those things I charge the government
with. this is all the governments role should be in this country.

Because I am Conservative, I won't have to use the Social security in my old age. because as a conservative
I have learned how to be independent, not dependent, on the government. I took charge of my life and used
everything in my power to insure I did not have to rely on the government.

Yet the other side of the coin is liberalism, which promotes the opposite of what I believe in, it promotes
the dependency on the government. taking away your will or ability to take charge of your own future.

As the baby boomers reach the retiring age, we will find that the liberal baby boomers are out in the cold
because they left their future up to the government, who will not be able to support them, because the baby
boomers had fewer kids to enter into the workforce. I am betting that more non lazy conservatives will do better
in those times then do lazy and liberal thinkers of the baby boomer generation.
and that the next generation in line after the baby boomers will be more liberal and totally dependent on the
government.

When the baby boomers die off, America's greatness will die with them, because this is the last generation
who was raised by the great people who won our last great wars.

.

Absolutely not. This is punishing achievement, and rewarding non-achievement.
Quote:
What are your thoughts about a "flat income tax" system where everyone pays the same percentage of their annual income, for example, 20%?
Unfair. 20% of $100.00 is not the same as 20% of $1,000.00. This brings us back to the "punish the achievers, and reward the non-achievers." A FAIRTax, where consumables are taxed, would be much more effective. At least citizens would have more control over how much tax they paid,
It is hard for me to believe that any sentient being can actually believe that income is directly related to achievement or hard work. Making money is, in fact, an identifiable talent ( or just an inheritance) and not necessarily related to hard work or achievement. A school teacher makes much less than a comodity trader but the ladder is an unproductive member of society. Furthermore, we have a market system that protects and benefits some at the expense of others. Our big farmers, big pharma, weapons manufacturers, steel industry, to name a few...they are all welfare recipients. Of course you tax the rich more than you do the poor. You cannot get blood from a stone. Who will pay to fix the bridges? invade Iraq? give Saudi Arabia AND Israel lots more weapons?

That's because it's the "sentient beings" who are failures in life. The dregs who would rather live off welfare because they've got two babies, and they bring more in than working at McDonalds.

Show me someone who makes a lot of money, who's not an achiever. I didn't say "inherit," I said "made," as in "worked for their money."

Explain. How is a commodity trader unproductive? How is a commodity trader "wealthy?" You're spouting heresay.

Quote:

You mean like welfare and unemployment?

Quote:

No. Big difference. They receive money and incentives from the government because they actively work hard in their sectors, but the bolster of money is to ensure that their "commodity" isn't priced out of the range of the average consumer. Furthermore, detract "weapons manufacturers" and "the steel industry" from your claim. I know for a fact that the steel industry doesn't get any grants from the Imperial Government, and the "weapons manufacturers" don't either. They just sell their products at market value.

Quote:
Of course you tax the rich more than you do the poor. You cannot get blood from a stone.
Again...YOU are "rich" to a bum. The Imperial Government orders you to go sell your car and computer, take the money you get from them, and unconditionally hand it over to the first bum you find lying in the street. Does that sound fair to you? If not, who cares? The bum WANTS YOUR MONEY, and according to your rhetoric, you MUST give it to him, whether you like it or not.

You know who it is that whines the most about taxes? The JEALOUS. Those who never wanted to get where "the evil rich" are, with hard work, and determination. They want ALL the money, but none of the commitment.

Who are the ones whining about taxes? The 22-year old mother of three kids (from three different baby-daddies), who can't afford to feed them, but CAN mysteriously afford that cell phone bill, and that weekly hair and nail job.

Who are the ones whining about taxes? The middle class family who says they can't afford health insurance....but they can afford two SUV's, satellite TV, DSL internet, and that yearly $5,000 vacation.

Here's a novel concept...people need to quit being jealous of the "rich" and start picking themselves up to that level. A school teacher, is a school teacher by CHOICE. That 22-year old mother of three did that to herself by CHOICE. No one held a gun to the middle-class family's head to make them buy those 2 SUV's. They made a CHOICE. Crying and whining about how "rich" people have everything, while the "poor, poor, pitiful poor" do not, is a joke. Unless they are handicapped, they did it to themselves.

Poor choices in life do not exempt you from paying your equal share to live in this country.

Default Hmmm

To me that until now I felt that taxes were what made America great and to me making war to waste tax-money is not the way to go and make the rest of the world see us with a hornet-like attitude. I felt that taxes made us the envy of the world since it made our country so much of a leader to be copied. In countries that pay no taxes then children are begging on the streets and victims to perverts that take them home and get their perversions out on them just for some food and a place to stay. That chill me to the bones and make me so glad America has orphanages to take in children like that and give them a chance to be on equal par with rich kids who have it all. I am glad we have people to seek them out and put them where they will be safe. I am glad we have police protection 24/7 and same for fire and all in this category. I think we should keep highways and schools to their dandiest since it is luxuries we are proud to have. I go for anything that goes for America, that is the base of what our tax-paying is about and it is for America. It is not for Iraq to breast-feed them with or any other country. It is for keeping us a good military to defend America if attacked and go after who did it with full confidence like we wanted to go after bin-Laden but Bush highjacked it and sent it to blow our money all over Iraq at 90 billion a month at the least. And like I said a thousand times that if we would take care of our own business as well as we took care of anyone else then we would be in a heck of a darn great and wonderful shape and the same goes for financial-wise if we would spend the money on ourselves and quit wasting it buying some other country what it don't want. Hell that place over there took a poll and 70 percent of Iraqis said it was okay to kill American invaders. Like I said I was proud of our tax foundation but just don't like who is presently handling the say over it all now.

I don't have a problem with our progressive tax system. When I was starting out in life, it was helpful to be in the low tax bracket and in retirement, it's nice to be back in that low tax bracket. However, in those years where we were earning the big bucks, I didn't mind paying a higher percentage. I think the system works pretty well.

What I don't like, however, is the way the so-called "rich" in this country get constantly demonized for not paying their fair share....when, in fact, they pay far more than their fair share. They should be recognized for it and applauded; not demonized. And I also think there's a limit to the amount of taxes placed on the upper income levels. There was a time when that rate was around 70%......entirely ridiculous! Even now, at a top rate of 36% it's too high. I think the top rate should never be more than about 33%. It becomes a question of fairness AND of not penalizing those who have worked hard and been successful.

In addition----individuals can always do a better job of spending their own money than the federal gov't can. When they get their hands on it, it's likely to go to unneeded "pork." Therefore, it's always a good idea, IMHO, to keep as much of it as we can OUT of the hands of the gov't. They should have plenty to keep us secure, fund our military and take care of our infrastructure. There's far too many social programs---many aren't run very efficiently.

AMEN.

NO ONE is saying that "the evil rich" shouldn't pay taxes. It should just be fair.

If Person "A" works his ass off his entire life, makes something of himself, and through personal decisions, becomes wealthy, well then good for him. He should be able to enjoy the fruits of his burdens.

If Person "B" barely works only as hard as needed to pay the bills, never bothered with school, hangs around with the wrong crowd, and never bothers with such things as 401k, or even a simple savings account...then why should HE be entitled any benefits of lower taxes?

This is why people bring up the FairTax. Rich or poor, everyone pays their share of taxes, through consumption. Both rich and poor buy the same gallon of milk, and loaf of bread. Both of them purchase cars and houses. The difference is that the "evil rich" will buy luxury cars and mansions, instead of economy cars, and little 3-bedroom jobs. That's where the "evil rich" will pay more in taxes. However, this way, it's discretional. No one is forcing them to pay more in taxes, and no one is giving the "poor, poor, pitiful poor" a free ride.

Rich will pay more than the poor no matter what tax system we have.... I think it is wrong you use the tax system to buy votes and use as a tools to garner campaign funds.

Quote:

It sounds nice... But there are better systems out there... I prefer the "fairtax" or HR25 overall... It is revenue neutral and lowers taxes for everyone while at the same time adding more people to the tax roles that ordinarily duck it. No give away programs are cut and there are very few negatives to the plan that I have found (and the ones that I have found are still better than the current alternative)
Plus... It will immediately put $300 billion back into the economy just in IRS compliance cost!
