Just for conversation's sake; when are A.A. programs no longer needed? At what point can we say that minorities have been given equal opportunity to succeed.

I agree that there is a place for AA programs. I'm just wondering that since were looking at well over 50 years since Brown V. Board of Ed. where do you draw the line?

When do you know that minorities have reached "equality"?

AA programs should not go on indefinitely.

The easy abstract answer is "when the effects of racism are no longer meaningfully, systemically harmful to a given minority's chances for advancement." Or put another way, when the harm of AA programs outweighs the harm they were designed to correct.

The hard part is establishing measurable criteria to determine that.

That's why I'd rather sidestep the problem by creating a system that corrects for income (a measurable criteria) rather than racism (a subjective criteria).

Why is it that you anti-AA people never protest about the Basketball or Football team being all black?
Because as is well known, sports teams are one of the last redoubts of meritocracy in our society. Although I've heard they stick some white guys on NBA teams in an "affirmative action" move so they won't be all black.

So in other words you don't have a problem with the basketball team being all black especially if it increases the opportunity for your school to win a National Championship just as long as they are not getting any medical or law degrees.
What are you arguing for? Affirmative action for sports teams???

Actually you have no problem with the football or basketball team being all-black, but when the average non-atheletic black person has an opportunity to go to school and get an education you have a problem with that.

I've already said that the main beneficiaries are white women, about four times now, but you haven't heard it because you hear what you want to, viz, "Duhhhh, he don't like black people."

Not one thread you have started mentions anything about white women being the main beneficiary of anything the jest of your weak azz arguments are aimed at BLACK PEOPLE plain and simple.

"Affirmative action" doesn't "help" anyone.

What is the % of blacks enrolled in college as compared to whites?

What is the % of blacks in the workforce as compared to whites?

What is the % in the population blacks compared to whites?

The percentages are anywhere from 8 - 13% which means whites %s are anywhere from 87 - 92% so please tell me how in the hell is that discrimination.

Peace.
little sbb, With your numbers we would have to assume that the 13% of our Hispanic population is counted as white along with all other nationalities(Asian, Indian, Arab, Aborigines, etc.) that are here.

Sbb, if we had a true affirmative placement program by percentage of population, would that make you happy? It would limit the number of blacks that i see on television to 13%, basketball teams to 13%, football teams 13%, etc.. This sounds like a good idea to me how about you?

You apparently believe in some kind of idiotic racial spoils system, wherein admissions committees are supposed to admit people till they have a certain percentage of racial groups.

Check it out:

"Hey Fred, admit 17.5 more blacks - then we'll have the numbers right."

Actually, that's what admissions committees try to get away with.

But you, and everyone else, is rationally and ethically entitled to >>>NOTHING<<< based on your skin color. The people whoe are entitled to anything anywhere are those who show up with the goods: in the case of educational institutions, test scores and grades.

....is how asinine and azz backwards your claims of discrimination are. How in the hell if you only make up 8% of 100% are you discriminating against someone?

You are one of those people that probably never had a problem of black people being kept out of Univs and Colleges because of their skin color.
Yes they used to do that. Now they're doing the same with whites. Both times were irrational and unjust.

Quote:
You probably would keep your mouth shut if black people still sat at the back of the bus.
No, I wouldn't.

Quote:
You probably loved it when schools were segregated.
No, I went to a 95% black high school, pretty segregated, and I didn't like it.

Quote:
I am willing to bet you don't know one white person personally that has ever been discriminated against.
Guess again - I have.

Quote:
Just come on out and say what you feel. You hate black people and would love to see them back on the plantation I at least can give your partner Valor credit for having the balls to say so.
Why don't YOU come out and say what you feel? You believe in racial discrimination against white people. Although you never met a white person slave holder, you retain a racist hatred for white people. You think white people NOW owe you a Free Black Pass for what some white people did hundreds of years ago. Nobody owes you anything except the equal protection of the law - get over your anti-white racism.

This is true in principle, but it assumes that opportunity was not being separately limited by skin color.

The whole premise of affirmative action is that past (and continuing) discrimination unfairly limits current opportunity, and thus a certain balancing must occur to level the playing field and prevent the majority (whites, in this case) from locking in the benefits of such discrimination.
Such a "balancing" concept is beyond stupid - it focusses on discrimination against young white people who were absolutely not involved in anything harming blacks. It lets off scott free the older white people who may have had a hand in discrimination, its focus isn't the older blacks who were the targets of discrimination, it helps middle class blacks who don't need help. Summary: it doesn't penalize those who might deserve to be penalized, doesn't help those who might deserve recompense, penalizes those who weren't involved, and benefits people who were never discriminated against. It ignores the primary principal of justice, that >>>>individuals<<<< receive benefits or penalties according to their own merit or dismerit, substituting instead a lunatic notion that some people should pay for the bad acts of others, the only connection being that they have the same skin color.

The indifference of the USSC notwithstanding, it is a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th amendment, as well as the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It pulls blacks into situations where they can't compete because they haven't gotten there through merit.

Summarizing: "Affirmative action" is

unconstitutional
illegal
counterproductive
creates racial tensions
unjust
irrational
reduces US competitiveness

How can any policy have more against it?

Lets try this one on for size how about everyone be given the same opportunities to succeed. There would be no need for any type of AA programs if we could get rid of the people with the mindsets like you and Blade, but as long as people like you are around there has to be programs in place to counter act your madness.

Peace.
