Today, hundreds of elementary schools will be forbidden to have Halloween parties, costumes or events due to the Evangelical intrusion on other people's right to have fun.
In 6 weeks, the same neocon evangelicals will be crying because little Johnny won't be able to sing a song about Jesus in school. They wan't it both ways - can't have it. |

I haven't seen this happen (though kids are no longer allowed to wear costumes for safety reasons), and I'm a happy heathen.
Do you have any evidence that this is a widespread trend? p.s. You do realize, don't you, that All Hallow's Eve (Halloween) is far more Christian than it is pagan? November 1 is All Saints Day.

At the school I teach at, the students are not allowed to dress up for Halloween.
Two Reasons: 1) School Safety - the official reason 2) A group of pastors from a several local churchs, including a luthran one (boggle) pressured the school board because they thought it was a pagan holiday and didn't reflect the values of the community. (Our school board members are elected officials is the only reason I can surmize for they caving) Ixtellor P.S. I am still curious about why the Luthran pastor/priest? was in on it, I am not familiar with that particular sect. Any enlightenment? P.P.S. I don't think its a secret many evangelicals are against Halloween.

Also has astronomical significance. It, at one time, was the midpoint between the winter solstice and the autumnal equinox.
Ground hog day is another cross quarter day, being the midpoint between winter solstice and the vernal equinox.

What's the big deal? Government entities and retail giants "cancel" Christmas because it doesn't fit into their secular religion.

One side of my family is Lutheran, and let me tell you...if there's any reason for them to do some heavy duty boozing and partying, THEY'RE IN. They've got the loosest morals of any "real" religious group ("real," meaning "not some retarded cult, like wiccans or scientologists). I can't say it's a local phenomenon either, because of all the wild stories I've heard from family members, on that side, that go to "conventions" across the country (conventions = excuses to party in excess in various cities). If this guy's got a problem with Halloween, then it's him, not the religion. |
