Ha - that sounds like some kinda army recruiting poster or something, right?
"Uncle Sam needs your help"..... But, I mean, think about that concept, for a minute. It occurs to me, that these clowns in government these days, are clueless. They've mostly completely lost track of basic political principles. And I mean, look at the military - those guys are havin' a hard time just trackin' down the ongoing communications of those Al Qaeda clowns, just 'cause they have burst-capable sat phones and that kinda thing. And look at the NSA and the "intel" folks - those guys are DESPERATE, just to keep up with all the rapidly changing technology. I mean, if you got any kinda useful skills to bring to the table, you got an instant job, right? (I mean, assuming you're not some kinda heroin addict or somethin')..... So, I mean, I got a friend of mine, he's 43 years old, and he just joined the mil. Why? 'Cause he was bored. And I mean, the mil's getting a good man, this guy's top-notch at what he does. But this guy's 43, right? They're not gonna send him to boot camp, right? Hey, Uncle Sam is desperate, people. He needs your help. And I mean, you don't gotta go join the military, 'cause then you're just gonna end up sayin' "yes, sir" to the likes of George Bush. But think about it in a broader sense - "Uncle Sam needs your help". What do you think? |

I'll have a Masters in International Relations in four years so I suppose I could go into Intelligence and give credible Intelligence to the govt.?

You might think they are clueless because things aren't going the way you would like but don't underestimate them as they making progress all over the world.
Try and support you countrymen rather than knocking them down. They need to focus on the external enemy and not the internal one.

No sirree Bob - I gotta LOT of respect for the United States military! I mean, look, as long as we got guys like Petraeus in there, we're gonna have no problem at all. That guy is a very smart man - and I mean, I "almost never" say that about someone. You know, if I say someone's a "clueless freakin' idiot", that means he's kinda "about average". If I say a guy has "half a brain", that means he's kinda "noticeable" in terms of some smarts. If I say a guy is "smart", that's like, exceptional - that's like, maybe fifteen or twenty people I've met in my entire life! Nah, when I suggested "incompetence", I was more hinting at the debris that's floatin' around in the "political" piece of the machinery. (Unfortunately, that piece is at the head of the military though).... But I mean, our C-in-C, that guy is a moron. I mean, really now, seriously - that guy is very dangerous - not only to the United States, but to humanity at large. That guy is a "moralist", and moralists have a certain behavior pattern that is very dangerous. And I mean, we could talk "all" about that if you wish, but basically it's very simple: human nature, kinda says that there's really only "one" useful way to coerce someone's behavior, and that's through dialog. You gotta make them understand, why it's in their own best interests, to do something. And I mean, all the other ways - you know, any kinda "coercion" in any of its various forms - deterrence, pre-emption, removal from society, ANY of that stuff - most of it is in the "non-operational" category. Most of it, involves TYRANNY. I mean, I could give you some "low-hanging fruit" in terms of examples - 3 quickies: a) ah... Drug Courts. They're phenomally successful. "Before", society used to just toss people in jail. What happened? It didn't work. The inmates would not only use drugs IN JAIL, but then the minute they got out, the very FIRST thing they'd do, is go out and use drugs, and get arrested again, and wind up right back in jail. So society kinda said, "wait a minute, our corrective institutions aren't having the desired corrective effect, so let's try something else". So, they tried the Drug Court. And what that is, is EDUCATION. They make you sit there and listen to psychology. They make you go to AA meetings. They make you think about your priorities. And the coercion there, is ONLY, that you "show up and listen". If you "blow it" and use drugs again, they might get a little "harsher" with the coercion, 'cause they figure one of two things is going on: either a) you're "not listening", in which case you need to be coerced to listen, or b) you really DO have a problem and you really ARE a danger, in which case you really MIGHT need to be locked up. The Drug Courts, they work. Their success rate, speaks for itself. b) Prohibition - everyone knows what happened with that, right? That was such a miserable failure, that they actually repealed a Constitutional Amendment, which is a very difficult process, it requires a super-majority and 2/3 of the States, and I mean, that's why there aren't very many Amendments to begin with, right? But all Prohibition did, was create an entirely new "corporate structure" that never existed before, called "Organized Crime". So, you know, there's one of Hayek's "unanticipated side effects" of moralism, right? c) Bushie's foreign policy - I read in the other thread, that bit about the Russians perceiving the US as a threat, and I mean, that is happening world-wide right now. The reality there is that "before", everyone LOOKED up to the US, and "now", everyone feels the need to STAND up to the US. That's what moralism does - it PISSES PEOPLE OFF. And I mean, Bush is such an idiot that he refuses to talk to people, right? He even tells you right up front, "we will not talk to our enemies". I'm tellin' ya, that man is stupid, he's a moron. Well.... what it really is, is that he suffers from the same problem that all other moralists suffer from - it's a "perceptual" problem. It has to do with the "filter" that their brains are using, when they're "looking at" things. I tried to show people how this works, with my Dalmatian example, but I mean, you know it's just "attention" - it's "what you pay attention to" (which determines what you're gonna "see" and "not see") - like, you know, if you're looking across the street at someone dropping a quarter into the Coke machine, how come you're "not" seeing the guy that's riding by on a bike, or the fact that the Coke machine is right next to a liquor store with "discount" ads in the window, or you know, that foxy brown-haired chick that's walking THIS way.... right? I mean, the Dalmatian example shows that those "symmetries" can be SO powerful that they can even make you see things that AREN'T THERE!!!! Right? And I mean, this is exactly what's going on iwith Bushie - the man "sees" SOME things, but not OTHERS. It's almost like, he only sees what he "wants" to see, what his model is telling him he "should" see - something like that. And I mean, the behavior reflects itself in things like the stem cell veto too - it's like, as soon as he gets what he considers to be a "moral compass", he STOPS in his thought process - he doesn't "play the tape all the way through", that kinda thing. It's just a pattern - "almost all" moralists, behave this same way. So.. hmmm... thoughts? Last edited by nonsqtr; 12-28-2007 at 09:42 PM. |

Why?
Why have "selective focus" like that? I mean, look at Blade there - all he "sees" in that whole post, is "Bush hatred". I mean.... "case in point", correct? As far as I'm concerned, enemies are enemies. It don't matter if it's Osama Bin Laden, or the President of the United States, or Jesus Christ himself, anyone who tramples on my turf is gonna get an earful. (And I mean, Jesus didn't do that kinda thing, so it's really only those first two clowns we gotta be worried about.....) We want to fight the external enemy. But we want to win too! We don't want to (*)(*)(*)(*) away our national capital for nothing, 'cause that's exactly what we got now - nothing. What did we get, for our 4 trillion dollars? Not even Osama's head on a platter, right? And today's events show, that we even know where he is..... so how come, my stinkin' incompetent C-in-C hasn't given me a necklace with his shrunken head on it? Stupid people are the enemy too, y'know...... |
