Last time around, many of you participated in VoteMickey debates and we were thinking it might be a good time to find out what everyone is thinking in 08.

For those that might have missed the ‘Mickey Doctrine’ first time around, a small group of non-conformists came together to debate the qualities necessary in a presidential candidate who would actually do good things for all Americans. Liberal and conservative dogma was left at the door, and in 04 we came to the conclusion that neither Bush nor Kerry were likely to do any better than their predecessors (boy did we get that one right!

But we did agree that there are many, many things the average voter could do to identify candidates that might put the good of the people ahead of their egos.

This go round, we wonder if something has changed? Is it possible that we’ve learned a lesson and are supporting candidates who really want to do what’s best for the country? And is it possible that both parties will nominate a real straight shooter?

Obama and Huckabee are both talking like true ‘anti-politicians’-- leaders who are willing to put the good of the community ahead of their desire for power. We wonder if it might be worth examining their platforms and considering the odds that either one can put ‘truth’ in the center and avoid Party, PAC and Big Business puppet strings?

So is anyone interested in doing a bit of a deep dive into Huckabee and Obama’s planks and see if we can find any truth under the covers? Take 20 minutes to read Mickey’s Doctrine (or ‘Manifesto’ as it was called form time to time, considering moderating one of the classic Mickey debates, and take a stand for Obama, Huckabee, or anyone else you think fits the model.
