Default Where should a president draw the line?

It's clear that the current president doesn't make any distinction between issues that should remain in the domain of personal conviction versus those requiring government involvement. He seems to be using his position to impose his personal "values" on the country. Two of the most obvious issues that come to mind are gay marriage and embryonic stem cell research.

So if people feel these issues require specific legislation, fine, then where should the line otherwise be drawn? Does this president draw ANY line? I can think of nothing that would give me more respect for a leader than to hear him/her say the words "look, this is what I believe in and will stand up for by the way I live my life, but it is not a matter for government to decide."

Default HE DOESN'T

He truly believes he has been put there by GOD. So that influences every decision. Remember what he said in Woodward's book? "He looks to a GREATER FATHER for guidance".

That may be why you have a Christian Army in a Muslim Nation..

Didn't the old monarchs believe that too? Something about divine right of kings?

Wouldn't surprise me though. Bush has trouble admitting that he made a mistake and cant stand to surround himself with people that disagree with him.

Default Divine right or not

the president has a job to do .... to serve the PEOPLE of America, not his GOD. At least not in this particular role. Let him run for Pope if that's his priority. We need a president who understands this.

We also need a president who solves the REAL problems - terrorism, getting our troops home, correcting the deficit, putting people back to work, etc. - before wasting time on questionable efforts like trying to write discrimination into the constitution.

As far as 'real' problems. Terrorism is in check. The Taliban is gone, and Bin Laden is hiding in a cave. Those troops cant come home. If they come home, we loose. Correcting the deficit may be a problem, so the government should fire all the congresspeoples aides and leave them with a staff of two. That would reduce spending. People back to work? I think people are lazy and either are not looking for work, or they are looking for work doing what they did before and are unwilling to take a pay cut.

As far as Gays, who cares? Im not gay, and I dont hang out with them.

Oh yes, firing congressional aides will solve all of our budget problems.

Did I also mention that global terrorism is up?

Your entire post is full of generalized suggestions that ignore the complexities of the problems that we face.

Default More Than That.......

....it contains ignorance of FACTS.

The Taliban isn't gone by ANY stretch of the imagination - - or propaganda from the 'w' regime.

I wonder, WISS - - how much of a pay cut are YOU willing to take for 'w'?

Since when did Bush check terrorism?

Afghanistan is a mess..and the Taliban are still there.

Iraq is a hotbed of terrorism as is Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Lebanon,Egypt, etc.--there is a huge list of countries.

I have a friend who is a professor in Egypt--she said it is getting bad--really bad! So please--do not flame me for putting Egypt on the list.

I just want to know what you are reading to give you these ideas?

Being gay has little to do with whether Americans care that the constitution remains a document that protects the minority so the majority can live safely and freely. Becoming apathetic about constitutional protections is too risky for my blood!
