Z won't be able to use his version of events at a criminal trial, if one happens. Any version he tries to throw out in front of a jury would be shredded to pieces by any half assed prosecutor.

Justice has prevailed so far, neither men may have had any criminal intent. IF Zimm was a regular participant of crime watch he may of felt it necesary to carry a weapon for protection during his patrol. He had a permit, so introduction of a weapon was permitted. when did the gun come out is the question.
