Thread: Should homosexuals be allowed?

Recently, one of the conservatives asked if liberals would ever accept heterosexuality being "the law of the land."

My reply was long-winded. It basically came down to, No.

So now I put the question out there, to everyone:

Should homosexuals be allowed? To be homosexuals, I mean. Should homosexuality be officially condemned? Discouraged? Restricted? Repressed? Should it be categorized as a mental illness? A violent mental illness? A dangerous mental illness? A spiritual crime? Should homosexuality be treated as a felony, or as a misdemeanor? Should the law include rules about how people should dress? Talk? Walk? Dance? Eat? What music different genders can listen to? Should the law include rules about how people should think? Should homosexual thoughts be a crime? Should it be the mere preference itself for one gender or another, depending on one's own, that is the crime, regardless of what a person allows themselves to think or feel or do? What penalties should exist for homosexuals, if heterosexuality is the law of the land?

They should be allowed the same rights under law as everyone who is not homosexual because "all men are created equal"; to treat any members of our society differently under the law would limit freedom, increase government involvement in our lives, and make our society both predudicial and hypocritical.

Yes, homosexuality must be allowed.
No, it shouldn't not be encouraged, and should have restrictions on how it can be "advertised" in support of itself, as cigarettes and alcohol are.
Yes, it should be recognized as the result of the same kind of decision-making as cigarette smoking or alcoholism are.

Threads like this is why I encourage my brother and his fiance to carry firearms.

ha ha. I certainly was. I never felt quite right about it, as I saw myself doing the smarmy, underhanded, manipulative and disingenuous things I see libs doing now. But I certainly was.

It's possible. You see that type of thing all the time. Some people just live extreme lives. They spend their first 30 years on the planet going crazy getting tattoos, doing drugs, dropping out of school, getting random women pregnant, going through a bunch of divorces and then they "find god" or whatever and become gun toting Tea Party nuts and tell all of us who have never been divorced and who stayed in school and listened to our parents that we are irresponsible liberals with no values.

That is a very un-American question. As long as we tolerate and reward the universe of other odd behaviors and ideas under the fig leaf of diversity, the question is moot. A better question would be 'should homosexuals be treated special?' for that is what the actual demands are.
