Thread: Question to Gays: What do we say to the polygamists?

My opposition to gay marriage is based no so much as opposition to gays marrying, but what will happen if we allow it to happen.

Because once the definition of marriage is opened up, there's no telling how far things will go.

So here's a question for gays:

What do we say to the polygamists who want to marry as they please?

If you tell me we should allow polygamy too, then I will continue to oppose gay marriage too.

Polygamist marriage would be a total disaster, and would do great harm to young girls who would be forced to marry much older men.

We see that in all polygamist cultures.

So I ask this of gays.

How do we say "yes" to you while at the same time saying "no" to the polygamists?

If you don't have an answer I must continue to oppose you on this issue.

I think Jerry Falwells "moral majority" crowd have already answered this the past weekend when PinkSlip attended Liberty University. Multiple wives is okay....being queer isn't. The crowd agreed.

Multiple spouses to serve man is a good thing and completely consistent with each other's beliefs. They also agreed they must do everything they can to get the big bad black man out of office, and re-install a super rich white man. God had no comment.

Why shouldn't they be allowed?

I really want to hear from gay people, RtWingFraud, and I want serious answers.

If you tell me that polygamy should be legal, I will continue to oppose gay marriage on the principle that one will lead naturally to the other.

So telling me we should allow polygamy isn't going to convince me to change my opinion. It will, in fact, make me more determined to oppose you.

Why should 1 man and 1 woman be able to get married?

Easy,, poligamy is illegal, homosexuality is not.

Polygamy is a complete disaster for women in every society that allows it. I do not have to prove that to you, it is obvious by a casual review of the headlines from Muslim countries. Also, in fundamentalist Mormon compounds, the situation is the same. Young girls, even before puberty, are forced into loveless marriages with much older men. It's a complete disaster.

That is not easy, because there is no moral principle upon which to base such a rule.

The one-man, one-woman rule is based on the Christian religion.

There is no moral basis to allow same-sex marriage however.

The Muslim religion allows polygamy so it actually makes more sense to allow polygamy than same-sex marriage.

And if Muslims keep coming to this country, they will eventually demand that polygamy be recognized.

I think you're mixing up cause and effect, though. Those societies are already a disaster for women, and removing polygamy wouldn't help them.
