Thread: Boehner Threatens Brinkmanship on the Debt Ceiling Again

  1. Default Boehner Threatens Brinkmanship on the Debt Ceiling Again

This is interesting to observe. Obama has made some tactical errors lately. Romney has made gains. Positive trend for the GOP there.
But according to FOX, Tea Partiers and the Absolute Faithful were about the only ones who loved it, the last time the GOP did this. Moderate Reublicans, Independents and of course Democrats, all thought it was extreme and ridiculous.
I think the GOP is making a serious error here and I would bet that Romney ends up dropping from his current slight lead / tie if the GOP continues this debt ceiling fight to the brink again - especially if Moody's gives us another hit due to "political brinkmanship", athough that seems highly unlikely.
I think that if they were smart, they would wait until after the election for this. They'll hold the House and probably take or split the Senate.
Why take actions that are going to appeal only to the the voters you already have 100% solidly in your pocket?

Only a fool would believe the Democrats are right about everything or to blame for everything. Only a fool would believe the Republicans are right about everything or to blame for everything.

Defaulting on America's national debt would ruin the economy beyond repair. Any politician who thinks it's ok to even threaten it should be killed.

I think it's treasonous to vote to default on our debt when we do not have to. The debt ceiling is an arbitrary number that has no other meaning than to get Congress to come together and fight about spending. If Republican's want to stop the debt, then they need to do it the old fashion way. Through major spending cuts and high taxation. This of course will cripple the economy so hopefully they would never do it. I think it's a 100% political ploy on behalf of the Republican's. Even Repubs like John McCain called the Tea Party bizarro for their absolute defiance of increasing the debt ceiling.

The Tea Party truly does want to see this country burn!!

Well making an issue of it draws attention to the deficit, which the GOP seems to consider a worthwhile political strategy. I think they could accomplish that just as effectively and without the negative backlash, through other means.

While I do agree.......You are wrong on one issue.....It's not higher taxes that are needed.....it's making CEO's and bilionares pay their share of taxes......We need to abolish all tax loopholes and throw CEO's in prison for not paying their taxes......Then we need to get new revenue going......Such as legalizing, and taxing recreational drugs, and letting non-violent drug convicts out of prison. New revenue, aside of income tax, would go a long way.

I am 100% against higher taxes and cutting spending. I'm saying, if you want to prevent increasing the debt ceiling than this is the way they should do it rather than threatening to default on the debt. It would destroy the country, but it would be fun to see the Republican ideology finely implode so we can move on in a much more educated way.

Part of me hopes Obama does not give in and we see how far the GOP will take this.......I would say they care more about beating Obama than america or her people.....So they would probably be willing to destory the nation just to prove could.

Even though I don't like you, I agree. Because you know the Republican's won't just approve the debt ceiling, they will throw something stupid in like the Keystone Pipeline or cutting taxes. I think Obama should just say "fine, vote for America to default on it's debt" and let it happen. It would hurt, but at least it would destroy any future attempts for the retarded conservatives to try to make decisions.

Canada is about to ban the pipeline I had heard. There are alot of canadians who are against it. A majority.

I would love to see Obama do some Clint Eastwood, "Go ahead, make my day" moment, with this. The GOP are cowards when they have to actually come in and work......They just know that most democrats are as well. It's easily to bluff with an all in hand when your opponent is a democrat.

The new age GOP is a full on cult. It's hard to attack a cult who is willing to die for their 19th century ideologies. They have made it a point, even signing contracts, that they will not compromise on anything. The worst thing a country can have is a group of people who think they know how life should be lived and the country should be governed and they force that on everyone else. I agree with you, I think the dems should just call the GOP's bluff. If they want to put some ridiculous addon in to the debate, tell them no and see what they do.

The GOP knows they have this leverage on the pansy dems so they will use this political ploy every chance they get.
