Apparently, in the minds of some people, my desire not to associate with difficult people should be illegal yet it's perfectly just for them to choose not to associate with me.
You can not associate with them AFTER you have answered the phone, and without tormenting them with a multiple menu that talks to them about 10 or more things which they are not interested in. There's the time waster. It's a lot quicker to anserr the phone and let them immediately tell you what they ARE interested in. Get it ?

OFF TOPIC, as well as BS.

Is this just a personal rant or do you really want congress to ban voicemail?

Lots of annoyances are laws made by legislators. Nothing unusual about that. And a lot of people ARE in jail, and /or get fined for violating those laws. Illegal parking. Not picking up after dogs. Illegal dumping. Disturbing the peace. Noise complaints. etc, etc.

Just saying "don't use voicemail" doesn't cut it. Lots phone calls are necessary (doctors, lawyers, pharmacy, govt offices, etc).

Plus some of the sleazier businesses will take creative license with what "requesting their service is", and declare any previous transaction as an excuse to phonespam.

I also get endless robocalls from various debt collection agencies, apparently due to the previous owner of the phone number. It's been going on for 11 years. They simply don't believe I'm not the one they're looking for, so I no longer reply to them at all. You'd think they'd give up after 11 years, but then the debt gets sold to a new collection agency, and the cycle starts again.
OFF TOPIC, but good points anyway. Coming in or going out, I want (EXPECT) a person on the phone, not a recording.

It's both. I'd like to see voicemail banned for BUSINESSES, and especially multiple menus. Absolutely.

I suppose it is to be expected that many people want the government to micromanage the life of a country as much as possible to eliminate petty inconveniences. The classic view of the government's proper function as the protector of your rights from the initiation of force and fraud certainly does not include this. I think you are just whining.

Well, I don't like voice mail when calling a business or government agency. But I love having it at home, along with caller ID. I don't ever answer my phone unless I know who is calling. I give family a special ring when they call. For those businesses, marketers and people wanting money and keep calling back, I also have a block button that blocks their calls from coming in.
Beam me up Scottie, no intelligent life down here.

Apples and oranges. Voicemail is a service provided by private companies. Plus, you point out the pointless and inefficient bureaucracy, and you're only wanting to add to it. That's the problem I have. If you don't like it, don't use it. Pretty simple.

It certainly DOES include it, and when the people speak up to recreate their society (government of the people), do you always try to knock them down by saying they are "whining" ? so what is every change we make to better our society ? A "whine" in your book ? Nice try.
