Icon5 U.S vs. The World - Why?

Some may say that our government is the world champion of peace, if so, why has our government blocked so many U.N bills?

Here are three examples for you:

1. General and complete disarmament: consolidation of peace through practical disarmament measures.
http://disarmament.un.org/vote.nsf/5...on=3#_Section3

2. Prevention of an arms race in outer space.
http://disarmament.un.org/vote.nsf/5...on=3#_Section3

3. General and complete disarmament: the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects.
http://disarmament.un.org/vote.nsf/5...on=3#_Section3

These are specific votes (and there are more...) that have gone:
"The World" vs. U.S (veto)

1. Does our country really want peace?
2. Is the U.S becoming a "Rogue" superpower?

You are too simple to realize those are all laws to circumscribe the power of the US. Since there is only one Numero Uno, the Numero Uno will be against it, and everyone else will be for it. All squared away now?

So are you now (finally) admitting that in reality the "Greater Good" assertion is a sham?

I'll make it easy for you Blade, since you seem to be losing it yet again:

If we are (as you say) the "only one Numero Uno", and because we don't want to lose this status we vote against these bills (as you say) "the Numero Uno will be against it".

At the same time, the rest of the world will approve of these bills (or as you say) "everyone else will be for it".

My only conclusion is that we're NOT looking out for "The Worlds" best interests (or as you often say) "The greater good", we are in fact acting for the benefit of our own self-interests to remain Numero Uno.

I don't know, maybe in "Blade-Land" 1 + 1 = 3

Ziggy, was there ever a question of this?

Only three reasons we vote against those and similar bills.
1) We don't want to disrupt our global military strategies.
2) Protect our Arms industry.
3) Stick it to the Russians. (This doesn't really happen today, but during the cold war, we would have voted against a "don't torture children" if the Russians had suggested it. It was all about posturing and credit)

Ixtellor

P.S. Seems to me you are asking obvious questions, in order to engage in moronic debates with morons? Or you thought you were being clever, and asking an obvious question instead of just stating it.

I just want Blade to finally admit it once and for all...
(which he pretty much did in so many words)

To be honest, this is a topic I'm very interested in on a personal level, I truly want to know what people think about it in general. From what I hear (polls, books, forums, etc.), most Americans would like for our government to work with the U.N. on issues of this nature.

For starters, I want people to know about the issue, which is the reason for the IP. And I have a few follow up questions that I'm wondering about...

1. Do you think we will ever have a leader that will work with "The World" on these issues?

2. How many signatures (IYO) would it take if Americans were to sign a petition about something of this nature?

3. Would our government consider such a petition?

4. Has our government ever considered any type of petition by "We the People"?

This is where I was actually headed with this one...

The "UN" in "United Nations" stands for "UN-American." Every one of those bills are designed to weaken the United States. Of course we refused to vote on them.

Why the hell should WE have to give up what WE'VE worked for, just because some stupid third-world countries don't like it?

The USA should have said that "we'll sign those bills, just as soon as we stop paying 30% of the UN's bills, but only get a 1% vote!"

Oh, and get the hell out of our country, if you hate it so much. Go build a world headquarters in DARFUR, and then get back to us, with how much "better" the rest of the world is.
