You think our politicians are working to reducing the deficit? Nope, not really. Spending will continue like a drunken sailor.
More proof that the d's and r's work together to not help our country. 2 sides of the same coin. All the main stream talk is pure and utter BS.

At minute 37:00 of the linked video Lehman (R) makes a statement about spending. “We’re talking about reductions in the growth of spending.” He confirms that there will be no reduction in spending. Krone (D), sitting next to him, is drooling out of camera shot. Washington does not spend less year-to-year. Ever. Is that clear? Negotiators are only negotiating amounts of spending increases and areas of such increases in spending. That’s it. Don’t believe anyone standing at a podium performing waffling prevarications in Washington while making claims of imminent spending cuts.

....There are no tax cuts on the horizon and there are no expenditure reductions coming. Spending is out of control, and the truth is that tax increases are coming for all levels of society......

He’s getting ahead of Republicans on the “message,” so that no matter what happens, Boehner and the Republican controlled House of Representatives will eat the negative fall-out. And the fall-out is coming, but what is not coming is spending reductions.

No one seems concerned about the fiscal cliff and the political lying around it? Really?

If one reduces spending increases to less than the growth in GDP you eventually balance the budget If tax rates remain unchanged.

Is that what is happening? GDP growth is higher than the spending increases? I have not heard that.

Talk of spending cuts is always politics and never real. There hasn't been a government spending cut in history. Well, there was a short lived one after WWII because they didn't have to fund the war any longer. The poliicians just want more money to spend. And, as always, they will give it to themselves.

Yet we get many many threads about how the R's want to slice and dice the fed budget. Here is a video with both parties stating, there will never be a reduction in spending and barely a peep from anyone.
What should one make of that?
Folks aren't concerned, especially the loud R's, about reducing spending?

lets go over the cliff, it would be good for the economy. slightly higher taxes on everyone who pays taxes and mandatory across the board cuts to all govt programs. Its exactly what we need to do.

You know, most people who comment on the budget have never actually read it. If you go through the budget request, you'll be hard pressed to find any significant place to cut. You can always argue over some small line item or other, but there really isn't anyplace for big savings that won't have some Big consequences for someone.

Most of the complaints I see are alarmist reactions to switching the accounting to show all the stuff we have kept off budget for the last 30 years. Yeah, you start showing the cost of a couple of wars, the completely unfunded mandate for prescriptions under medical, or the bow wave of false savings we've been hiding from ourselves since the last big exercise of 1998, and it looks pretty grim. But it doesn't change what we spend, it just admits it.

You have set up some huge programs in the last decade. Forget about the wars or Medicare, how much do you now spend on security. Do you think those TSA agents and 600 miles of border fence were free? You scream about intelligence lapses but do you want to cut the CIA and NSA budgets? People are rolling on the floor about Embassy security but seemed OK with cutting Embassy security budgets by 90 million last year.

So get real and do your homework. Instead of whining about numbers you know little about, find specifics that you want to give up. When you say cut waste, think less security and willing to accept a couple of bombs in you cities next year. Say reduce government programs, think about airplanes running over each other and bridges collapsing underneath trucks. Let the private sector invest in you electrical grid and be ready for $600 electric bills and still have brown outs in the heat of the summer as you exceed capacity.

You get nothing for nothing. Pay for it or accept that services won't be available.

actually the Ryan budget bill passed by the house did include spending cuts and program cuts. But Reid never let it reach the floor of the senate for a vote---why? could it be because he was afraid it would pass?
