i voted no, but i didnt know it wasnt in the original pledge. i guess then, maybe it should be taken out. But, my arguement for keeping is that for tradition's sake, and that the people who got this whole thing started were atheists, and what percentage of the population is atheist, maybe 10%? Why should the majority who want it have to take a back seat to the minority. sounds like a republican arguement, but i want to assure you that i do have a backbone

I don't believe in a God, the God, or the idea of God in general, why should I pledge that this nation is under something I believe does not exist. Like ThereseM said, people who believe in God can thank God or pray to God silently. US supposedly guarantees religous freedom, including the freedom to denounce religion.
Also, why are foreigners going to American schools required to recite the pledge of allegiance? They aren't US citizens, why should they pledge allegiance to the US? |
