I believe he made the promise in one of his speeches.
Just campaign rhetoric? Maybe.
Differing definitions of what a "strict constructionist" is? Perhaps.

But the funny part is, what I'm worried about is that he will keep his word. If it were someone like Romney I might dismiss it as a false promise.

a constructionist is one who tries not to deviate from the intentions of the founding fathers, versus someone who tries to take the constitution into new and different places.

I'd prefer that we get back to that sort of court, frankly.

Dubya has set the bar so low, that at this point, I could go for either 3 candidates as long as the other side performs their duty as a check and balance. Each candidate have their own positives and negatives, so I'm not thinking about it too much until the final 2 is decided.

Anyway it's just a four year stint.. how much trouble could any of those three cause...

I don't think anyone can really speak for what the founders wanted. The issues brought up in court today do not always correlate to anything the founders thought about or dealt with.
Usually when we think there is a connection, we're supplying some of the "facts" out of our own heads.
It's impossible to read a document and apply it without somehow shifting its meaning.

I prefer a mix. A couple liberals. A couple conservatives. And a bunch of O'Connors.
They need to argue. They need to have sensible people in the middle as well.

All we've really seen from these "constructionists" is anything that can be done to the benefit of the wealthiest corporations over the rest of us. That's the only pattern I see.

The founders didn't even live in the era of corporate capitalism, so it beats me how people can know what exactly they'd do.

Thank you then.

Oh this is laughable "ruin retirement savings"? Apparently now Enron and Exxon are responsible for the collapse of Social Security. Explain.
AH Fromage Frais if I have understood you of course you may enter into a debate about our forthcoming elections, there are no demarkation zones here as far as I am concerned.

What are your views on Gordon Browns atempts to erode UK civil liberties with his wish to extend detention without charge, and as a member of his party should I work hard on the stump for a Leader who I disagree with?

Not so sure that McCain is going to stay, "McCain" while in office. But we will see.
What more can a supreme being want than the respect of the Proletariat, that applies to Mad Maggy and me!

PS did you feel the weight of her handbag?

PPS McCain in office, Rush the Junkie and his ilk I fear will try very hard not to allow that to happen?

I lived very well, thanks to the British people and a strong dollar.

McCain in office would mean that Rush would have to take back a bunch of his prognostications, that's for sure.

I'm anti-status quo.

I think that should answer the question clearly enough.

Not necessarily.
Are you just against the current status quo... or do you always root for the underdog?
