Default The Audacity of Rhetoric

Quote:
By Thomas Sowell

It is painful to watch defenders of Barack Obama tying themselves into knots trying to evade the obvious.

Some are saying that Senator Obama cannot be held responsible for what his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, said. In their version of events, Barack Obama just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time -- and a bunch of mean-spirited people are trying to make something out of it.

It makes a good story, but it won't stand up under scrutiny.

Barack Obama's own account of his life shows that he consciously sought out people on the far left fringe. In college, "I chose my friends carefully," he said in his first book, "Dreams From My Father."

These friends included "Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk rock performance poets" -- in Obama's own words -- as well as the "more politically active black students." He later visited a former member of the terrorist Weatherman underground, who endorsed him when he ran for state senator.

Obama didn't just happen to encounter Jeremiah Wright, who just happened to say some way out things. Jeremiah Wright is in the same mold as the kinds of people Barack Obama began seeking out in college -- members of the left, anti-American counter-culture.

Another really good article on the reality of Obama.

For me there is no more debate on Obama. All the questions I had about him were answered with this Pastor Wright issue. Obama did not have the judgement to get himself and his family away from this guys rhetoric nor did he have the leadership to confront the pastor directly and attempt to make positive changes in his own church.

If Obama can't stand up for whats right in his own church, how will he stand up for America?

Unless ofcourse he did not see anything WRONG with what his pastor said and did.

You simply cannot blame someone for a person that they know. I have had several teachers and guides who have said things that i do not agree with. Does that mean that every teacher i have ever had can say something bad and i will be to blame for it?

Someone running for President has to be held to a higher standard. Obama claims he has better judgement and leadership qualities than Hillary or Mccain but he showed neither in handling his pastor. For 20 years Obama sat and listened to this guy and did nothing, basically approving of him with inaction. Obama only made that speech and mentioned the preacher becuase he was cornered, finally, by the media. Otherwise he would have continued his support for the pastor.

A man of judgement and leadership wanting to be President would have confronted racism, anti Americanism, and lies, not brought his kids to sit and listen to the guy spew it.

Not suprising that he sought out these type of people, because he was raised by an avid hate-America mother. Wait until the news stories about her start to break, it will be a whole other can of worms.
