swift boats this and that
All this discussion on the swift boat ads/kerrys war record/bush war record is very interesting, and it has been getting me to wonder about the folks in service today. I hope at the very least, the military has learned to keep really good track of your records!!!!!!
I worry about the people today who are earning purple hearts , and i wonder if they worry how their record will look in 20-30 years. I can't imagine what it would be like for a young army guy being awarded for something they did in this Iraqi war , and years from now, some commander is going to say "well, that wasn't good enough for now".
ALso, i hear stories here and there where the young guys area saying "this was too horrible of a situation to justify the outcome", (one was about a young man who committed suicide) . Has society been enlightened by the Vietnam war enough that we can accept what these people are saying? Or will it be brushed away like the stories of the Gulf war vets having very serious health problems?
I followed a lot of threads on several forums on this "swift boat vets" thing, and while it really made me see how it relates to vets today, no one seemed to see the connection. Does anyone else see it?
