Lot's of folks in the US don't think of GW Bush as a legitimate president because of the way he got into office.

Now, here we are in Iraq, supposedly instaling a democratic system with free elections. How many gullible arabs do you think there are in the world?

I'm not making a value judgement on the fairness of elections in the US or Iraq. All I'm saying is it looks bad.

We have an electoral college, that's the way we do it. I'd like to see it changed to popular but that won't happen. I really don't care what they think. If we are so bad, don't come here and suck off our economy. And let's not shell any more money out for aid.

Why would you want to switch to the popular vote? There's a reason why the Founders chose an electoral college: it forces the candidates to campaign in all of the states! If we went by popular vote alone they would just stick to the costs. neglecting the rest of the nation.

Does the electoral college need to be reformed? Yes. The electoral votes need to be able to be split depending on which way the population goes. For example, if State X has 10 electoral votes, and 60% vote for Kerry and 40% vote for Bush, Kerry should get 6 electoral votes and Bush should get 4, instead of Kerry getting all 10 (as would happen now).

Is that how it works?

I thought it was if Gore got 60 percent of the votes and Bush 40 percent, Bush get all the electoral votes from state X (FLA)

Or is that only if Katherine Harris is in charge of counting?
