Can someone explain this to me? This is something I have for many years failed to understand. Why would anyone have the audacity to build a temple of one faith upon the sacred ground of another? It would be like going to the Great Pyramids and saying, hey, we should put a church on top of that sucker!

Mohammed supposedly ascended to Heaven from this site. He did so in a dream. He never set foot in Jerusalem. It is not even clear that Jerusalem was the place Mohammed was talking about in his dream. Most scholars believe it was not. This has been the one of the major sticking points in Middle East peace. Why don't the just tear down that sucker and ship it back to Mecca or Medina and rebuild it there? That and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It's just real estate, and since this has been major source of religious turmoil for about 1,400 years, I think the best thing to do would be to separate the Islamic holy site from the Jewish holy site. It has been the Jews most Holy site for over 3,000 years. Let them have it back.
