Default Words from the Mouth of Jesus:

Quote:
5:38-39 - "You have heard that it used to be said 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth', but I tell you, don't resist the man who wants to harm you. If a man hits your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well.

5:40-42 - "If a man wants to sue you for your coat, let him have it and your overcoat as well. If anybody forces you to go a mile with him, do more - go two miles with him. Give to the man who asks anything from you, and don't turn away from the man who wants to borrow."

5:43-45 - "You have heard that it used to be said, 'You shall love your neighbour', and 'hate your enemy', but I tell you, Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Heavenly Father. For he makes the sun rise upon evil men as well as good, and he sends his rain upon honest and dishonest men alike.

5:46-48 - For if you love only those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even tax-collectors do that! And if you exchange greetings only with your own circle, are you doing anything exceptional? Even the pagans do that much. No, you are to be perfect, like your Heavenly Father.
Now here's a question. Can anybody name a politician who lives his/her life by these words? If a true Christian is one that subscribes to the above beliefs of Jesus, do we have a single Christian in congress?

I live by those rules; and so do my family and friends (luckily, I have not haters in my family, but those poor bitter souls out there still get nothing but love from me). I'm not perfect, but I do my best to be open minded and loving towards all.

As for my religion, I like to call myself a "Christian-Buddhist", as I agree with Jesus on many philosophies, but see Buddhism as a more pure form of spirituality, which focuses on nature and the soul, instead of dogma.

Back to the point: do any of our politicians try to live by the words of Jesus?

Out of the three candidates, Obama gets the best score for living by the words of Jesus. His words emphasize healing and cooperation over hate, and he's yet to attack anybody on non-policy related fronts.

But as for all the misguided souls showing hate towards him, they are NOT Christians (a true Christian does not hate). Jesus would never approve of the kind of attacks being directed at Obama.

The oldest known Bible was written about 60 years after the death of Jesus.
So I take the phrase "Words from the Mouth of Jesus" with a grain of salt.

That being said, I think Jesus is awsome. If Christians acted like Jesus or followed his advise, I would demand that it be recognized as the GREATEST religion in the history of human kind. But since Christians are less interested in the words of Jesus and more interested in Romans and Leviticus (hate gay people) I find the religion sad.

Ixtellor

P.S. Most quoted Jesus Moment "Turning over the money changers tables" It shows that violence and anger are OK and Christ like.

P.P.S. How different would the world be today, if they editors of the Bible (humans) had left that portion of the Bible out?

That is not an accurate description of Christianity.

New Testament book Acts of the Apostles at chapter 2 and verses 42, 44, and 45:

42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and in fellowship [...] 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things in common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. (King James Version)

The theme is reiterated in Acts 4:32-37:

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. 36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, 37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet. (King James Version)

Sounds like capitalism is also incompatible with Christianity.

How can anyone say what the word of Jesus was? We all know how much can get lost in translation and over time. Nobody then had a tape recorder or was dictating.
