I'm sure that there are people here that watch Fox News. That doesn't surprise me. I don't really want to launch any personal attacks on people here, I'm just wondering why people actually watch it. Personally, I can't watch it for more than ten minutes without laughing or getting really angry.
To me it seems like that Fox is almost a strictly opinion network, which is fine. I just don't think that it is as fair an balanced as they claim. How can they advertise "Fair and Balanced" and "We Report, You Decide" when they run stories that are consistently pursuing a conservative agenda.

Have you watched MSNBC lately? Keith Olberman is not opinion? It is such a cliche, these attacks on FOX. Their news department is just as good as anyone elses. They have opinion shows just like all the other news channels. The problem is the left can't stand the fact that conservative views get ample airtime on FOX, as opposed to other networks. The left has no problem with the blatantly liberal NY Times or Air America or Media Matters or Moveon.org. They have no problem with The View or Bill Mahers HBO show or Rolling Stone Magazine or the BET channel. All of which offer a mostly liberal point of view. The left could care less that CBS ran a story 2 months before the 2004 election on Bush's national guard service which contained fake evidence and biased witnesses (a story that caused CBS to apologize and got producers fired). Has FOX done anything this bad? Heck, if not for Hannity we would not even have learned about Rev. Wright. Last edited by CRIMSON MASK; 04-01-2008 at 10:07 AM. |

as a Democrat, when I was younger (under 40 & didn't know much) I had the same opinion as you about Fox News, but that has cahnged in the last few years. I actually prefer Fox now, to get me the truth and put it all out there for me to decide. I have gotten where I can not stand CNN anymore, because it is too tainted.
I believe Fox has the best ratings too, probably for the reasons i just stated. |

Crimson,
I don't claim that Countdown is not opinion. The difference is that it is admitted. Fox News consistently advertises that it is "fair and balanced" with slogans like "we report, you decide". What does Bill O'Reiley say at the start of every single show? "You are entering the no spin zone." I'm not opposed to airing opinion shows, just admit that they are opinion. I can understand why conservatives would want their own equivalent to MSNBC, but they should admit that it is right-leaning to offset "the liberal media". Just don't call it fair and balanced; that's all I ask. My question is, how can they claim to be news, when they are clearly opinion. And why do people buy it?

no, its not really news. its the jerry springer of politics. until just a few months ago, i watched fox news exclusively, because its the most entertaining "news" channel on tv, in my opinion. when im really interested in getting news, i go online and find it. its a lot easier to ignore the commentary when youre scanning for facts in text.

About 10 times now on this Forum, I have posted the entire line up for FOX news, and asked a simple question:
How much of it is news and how much is commentary. No conservative has EVER answered that question. Reason? It is beyond doubt mostly commentary. I still enjoy FOX news. I like their business reporting and there are about 4 hosts who I think do a good job. I even like Brit Hume very much, but he is overtly biased towards Republicans. Yes FOX does do a lot of news, but it is outweighed by political commentary and a lot of tabloid. Ixtellor
